In August, it was revealed that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had recently made the exciting decision to expand their family... with another dog.

People reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed the new puppy — a black Labrador — early in the summer, where it joined the couple at their Kensington Palace home. But aside from that, we knew very little else about the latest addition to the Sussex, until USA Today shared some rumoured details on the dog's name.

USA Today reported that author Sally Bedell Smith, who has written several biographies about the royal family, had inside knowledge that Meghan and Harry's new pup was called Oz, but after the royal couple's recent visit to Sussex, we know that isn't true.

While visiting Survivors' Network, a Brighton-based charity founded by female survivors of sexual abuse, Meghan was gifted with a drawing of her beagle dog, Guy, dismantling the patriarchy. But when a representative of the charity handed over the drawing, saying it was of "your dog", Prince Harry responded: "No-one's even seen our dog!"

But then - and here comes the insight we were all after - Meghan replied: "I know, and they keep getting her name wrong!"

So while we now know that the dog - which may not even be a Labrador, for all we know - is definitely female, we also know she's definitely not called Oz. Every day's a school day.

Before moving to the UK permanently, Meghan had two rescue dogs: a beagle named Guy, and a labrador/shepherd mix named Bogart. Sadly, Bogart was deemed to old to make the transatlantic move with Meghan, and had to stay back in Canada where the Duchess lived prior to becoming royalty.

Guy, on the other hand, has risen up the royal ranks with his human mother, and was even spotted riding in a car with the Queen shortly before the royal wedding.

But it seems Guy is going to have to adjust to not being the sole object of Harry and Meghan (and the Queen's) pet-affections, with a new (mysteriously named) pup now on the scene.

It's no surprise that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made the decision to get another dog. Splitting their time between Nottingham Cottage in the Kensington Palace grounds, and a country estate in the Cotswolds, they've got plenty of outdoor space to give their animals a run around. Plus, did you see how much they loved meeting Bród and Síoda - the massive dogs belonging to Ireland's President Michael Higgins during their official visit to Dublin in July?

Pure joy on their faces.

Here's hoping they'll share a picture of the nameless new puppy in future.
