There are a few purchases that require extreme consideration in life — a car, a house, a phone, or a laptop. But I’d argue that sex toys also fall into that category… and maybe even more so if it’s a panty vibrator shaped like a car key.
Okay, admittedly those are words I never thought I’d say in my life, but here we are: Bellesa has made a vibrator with a remote control so discreet it could easily be mistaken for the keys to your Mini.
Meanwhile, the wearable vibrator sits in your pants for out and about pleasure play, or even some at-home solo time without all the fiddling with the buttons.
And I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t curious — I’m only human, and any object that looks like something else is, for some reason unbeknownst to me, immediately fascinating.
Sweets shaped like a mini burger? Salt and pepper shakers designed to look like little rabbits? I’m there — so of course this was going to grab my attention. Predictable!
Ofc, there was also the promise that this remote-controlled panty vibrator would help to spice up my date nights (although admittedly, these are pretty sparse atm). So I thought I’d take it for a test drive. Keep reading to find out if the Bellesa KeyVibe lives up to its claims.
ENYTK about the Bellesa KeyVibe
Although it’s called the KeyVibe, it’s actually the non-vibrating part of the vibrator that resembles — you guessed it — a car key.
Unlike other nondescript remotes, though, this one is designed to be discreet enough for public play. “You could leave it out on the dinner table without anyone batting an eye — just make sure you don’t accidentally hand it to the valet,” Bellesa’s website advises. Wise words!
And instead of opening the boot to your convertible (we’re imagining you — our readers — as Barbie, obvs), the remote controls a vibrator, which can be secured to your fave pair of sexy underwear with the magnetic attachment.
The thicker end of the oval-shaped vibe is slightly raised and can sit against your clit or your vagina (your choice — but we’d recommend against the C-spot), while the remainder of the toy extends along the rest of your vulva.
Once safely in place, the key can be used to unlock new realms of pleasure by powering up through the five vibration speeds from up to six metres away — ideal for those coasting into public play for the first time.
Naturally, I’ve used plenty of vibrators before (it kinda comes with the territory), but the prospect of handing my pleasure over to someone else is always exciting, so I was revving to get started.
How to use the Bellesa KeyVibe
Charge it up
You can’t drive a car without petrol (or charge, in the modern age!) — so ofc the same goes for igniting your KeyVibe into action.
Before even thinking about setting off, you’ll need to link the magnetic USB charger up to the remote and the vibrator — which takes around two hours for it to fully charge.
When the tank is full, give the vibrator a good wash while you decide how you want to ride.
Talk it out
If you’re playing with a partner, and you’re interested in showing off (or not) your new whip in public, now is the time to decide on a safe word.
Public play, or any kind of power dynamics, can bring up a ton of feelings — both expected and unexpected — so it’s wise to have an easy way to signal you want to break, especially if you’re handing control of the remote over to a partner.
Should you be flying solo, however, have a play around with the remote and figure out what you feel comfortable with in your own time before venturing out.
Figuring out the remote
We wouldn’t want to assume, but we’re guessing the last thing you’d want is to leave figuring out the remote to when you’re in public — only to end up accidentally on the highest setting while you’re trying to hold it together at dinner.
Admittedly, the buttons are kinda confusing — as they look like lock, unlock, and boot buttons (you know, like the ones on an actual car key...).
To avoid any awkward encounters, here’s a quick guide of how to use the buttons on the remote:
- Top (lock): Increase intensity
- Middle (boot): Turn on/off/standby
- Bottom (unlock): Decrease intensity
Arousal is key
While (we get it) it can be wholly tempting to accelerate straight into direct clit stimulation, just like sex, you shouldn’t expect your arousal to go from 0 to 100 miles straight off the bat.
Take the time to turn yourself on before setting up the KeyVibe — read some erotica, load up some audio porn, or indulge in your favourite sexual fantasies (or have your partner talk you through them — even hotter).
Now’s your time to get inventive with it: use a clit vibrator, or indulge in some full body massage to start waking up your vulva.
Once you’re ready to get going, slather the vibrator in plenty of water-based lube to keep the friction from building up down there, and choose who’s going to be steering your way towards the big O before handing them the controls.
How I tested the Bellesa KeyVibe
Having received my favourite delivery (a Bellesa package), I was gagging to have a go with the KeyVibe. Over multiple sessions, I tested the vibrator out on each setting — both solo, and with a partner.
Remote control vibrators can sometimes be temperamental — with the controller stalling and starting — so my main interest was the functionality of the connection between vibrator and remote.
But I also gave it a test drive for overall power, battery life, waterproofness, comfort, and ergonomics, and whether it was a good time (which is really what it comes down to at the end of the day).
Who I am: I’m a queer, cisgender woman in my mid-20s, who has tested lots of sex toys (including remote control and panty vibrators) since I started writing and podcasting about sex and relationships five years ago.
Don’t believe me? Many of these have been during my role as Senior Sex and Relationships Ecommerce Writer at Cosmopolitan — so you can find the receipts, if you wish to.
Our honest review of the Bellesa KeyVibe
Pros
- Bellesa was right — the remote is really discreet (almost too much)
- Easy to change settings with the three buttons
- Powerful vibrations, even on the lowest settings
- No pattern modes (a plus for me, but it depends on your preference, TBF)
- Magnetic attachment is super strong and keeps the toy in place
- Silicone is smooth and body safe
Cons
- Battery only lasts 45 minutes, with two hours of charge
- Not as quiet as you’d like it to be for public play
- Doesn’t come with a storage pouch
First impressions
Having grown up in the Spy Kids/MI High (throwback) era of film and television, the thrill of opening a package to find a remote that looks *exactly* like a car key was immense.
I’m a huge fan of sex toys that come with little extras, so I was a little disappointed to find that the KeyVibe didn’t come with something to store my remote and vibrator in. As a gal with an insane amount of sex toys — components like chargers and remotes can get lost easily — having a storage bag or pouch would have been a welcome addition, particularly for the price point.
But that didn’t stop me from feeling like I could be the next MI6 agent with a deadly (erotic) weapon disguised as a car key. And, once it was fully charged and I had given it a good wash with Bellesa’s very own toy cleaner, I was prepared to put that weapon to good use.
Getting started
Having been failed one too many times by my Hinge date cancelling, tonight was just for me and my KeyVibe — so I had plenty of time to figure out what settings I enjoyed in the showroom (AKA my bed).
As I’m currently half way through Onyx Storm (the third book in Rebecca Yarros’ Empyrean series, ICYMI) I’m pretty good to go at any given moment.
But — just in case — I decided to warm up by trailing Le Wand’s Dive magic wand vibrator over my shoulders, nipples, inner thighs, and over my pants before parking the KeyVibe in them.
Once my motor was running, I switched on the KeyVibe by holding down the button on the base of the toy for three seconds, and the LED light on the remote flashed into action.
Covered in a splash of water-based lube, I attached it to my pants using the magnet — a little worried that it wouldn’t stay in place as it’s not the lightest panty vibrator I’ve felt, but when it was in place, it didn’t budge.
Power
Pressing on the ‘lock’ button of the remote (which increases the intensities), the toy jolted into its first gear. Immediately, I was grateful I hadn’t strolled out into public with the vibe in my pants — while it didn’t exactly sound like a car revving, even the lowest intensity was pretty noisy.
Alone in the comfort of my own home, though, it didn’t matter, and I was able to ignore the sound getting louder as I pressed through the five modes.
And, okay, five modes doesn’t sound like much to choose from, but the lowest matched its noise levels in power — so much so that the buzziness of the highest and fifth mode was too intense, even for me. Instead, I decided to cruise around the third strength, which drove me gently towards the big O-road.
Coupling up
Admittedly, the climax was enough to make me just wanna drive (in the words of Ms XCX — or is it Mrs Daniels, now?!) for a second time, so I decided to navigate it this time with a partner, for the full experience.
After establishing a safe word with one of my FWB, I switched the toy on via the button on the vibrator — the remote makes sure it stays on standby, which is handy — passing her the remote as we ventured into a busy bar (I wouldn’t risk it anywhere else).
As I was ordering a drink, I felt the motor fire up beneath me — glad to know the remote worked even from around four metres away. Even on the lowest setting, muffled by the dress I was wearing and the music in the bar, however, I was paranoid that the people around us could hear what was going on in my pants.
By the time I got back to my date with our Campari spritzes, I basically spat our safe word out (but don’t worry — it gave us plenty to think about before we carried on at home).
The verdict
Having hoped this toy would drive me wild, I was a little disappointed that I couldn’t give it a proper spin in public. Alas, my dignity is more important to me than orgasming among unsuspecting strangers — but I had no qualms about using the KeyVibe at home.
No shame if you’re into the risk of being caught in public, though — this toy is kinda made for you (even more so if you or your partner has an obsession with F1). I’d recommend testing it out at home first to see whether you’re comfortable with the noise levels.
It's also worth having a play around with the remote control buttons before you venture out. Unlike some remotes that come with vibrators, this one is totally responsive, so it can be helpful to get a feel that it works before your partner ends up ramping it to the fifth intensity as you’re mid-sentence at the pub.
Plus, you can get a mental idea for how far away six metres is (because BFFR — who knows that off the top of their head?!).
Wherever you are playing, though, it’s about the destination — not the journey! And the power of the vibrations was certainly enough to have a bloody good ride, if not have you speeding towards the finish line in record time, even on lower settings.
Unfortunately, you’ll need to charge the remote and the toy between uses, as the battery only lasts 45 minutes. And, top tip: hold down the power button on the vibrator itself to turn it off when you’re done, as it will stay on standby and drain the battery if you don’t!
You’ll also need to make sure to keep an eye on that remote control, so it doesn’t go walkies and end up mixed up with your actual car key, or worse: your housemates’!
What others say about the Bellesa KeyVibe
Most of the time, I read sex toy reviews and think: okay, we’re on the same page. But being challenged is part of life, so I’m glad to see that some shoppers didn’t think the toy was as noisy as I did (it just goes to show everyone has different limits when it comes to sex).
“I’m blown away by this toy,” shares one happy reviewer on the Bellesa website. “The key is so realistic y’all, I was SHOCKED when I saw it in person. Not to mention how incredibly powerful the vibe can be without making a PEEP — this takes discretion to the whole next level!!!”
Others agreed that it was a little loud, though: “It’s loud and you would hear it unless you are somewhere with enough background noise or not super close to other people,” one person says.
Meanwhile, others agreed that the power on the toy was impressive for its size. “The vibrations are surprisingly strong for a little vibe, and the remote (key!) works perfectly when connected,” one five star reviewer claims.
And, ofc, they were also shocked by how discreet the remote control was: “I did not expect the realism with the remote,” they continue. “It really does look like a car key, like I could leave it out in my apartment and my roommates would have literally no clue. I just love cool tech in toys and this is just on another level.”
