Getting regular STI tests is super important, no doubt about it. Whether you're sleeping with the same person, or living your best casual sex life, as long as you're doing it safely, we're here for it. Unfortunately, it's been reported TWO THIRDS of the world have an STI and don't know it.

We get it, sometimes, going to the GP to get tested can feel like a bit of a ball ache - why do they only ever have appointments in the middle of the day (don't they know you have lectures/work/other things to do?). If you're lucky enough to get an appointment easily, then awesome. If you're not, DW - there are home STI tests you can get delivered to your door for free. I know, what a time to be alive.

SH:24 are one of the most awesome and forward-thinking services, with your genital and sexual health their numero uno priority. They provide free, confidential STI tests you can do at home. And you can get in touch with them 24/7. Here's how it works.

What do home STI kits test for?

Their kits test for the most common STIs: chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis & HIV.

How do you go about getting one?

Visit their website and answer a short series of questions which will determine the type of test you need. First you enter your gender (male, female, trans) and then answer the question "who do you have sex with" (male, female, both or trans). To show you how easy it is, I answered that I am female, and have sex with men.

It then explains I would need to send them a blood sample (for syphilis and HIV) and a vaginal swab (chlamydia and gonorrhoea). There's a full explanation on how you go about this, and even a YouTube video to show you. It is beyond easy.

What happens next?

Your test kit will arrive in a plain envelope. It will contain everything you need to provide them with samples. DW, it's really discreet and your details will not appear on any of the samples or the return envelope.

SH:24's service does also post chlamydia treatment to people who test positive for it in certain areas too. In some cases, an NHS clinician may call you to offer additional advice if you have tested positive for an STI. Usually, treatment includes a course of antibiotics, and you may potentially need to attend a clinic IRL.

You can find your nearest sexual health clinic here.

It really is that simple. Happy STI-free banging!
