Let’s be honest - pizza is rarely ever bad. It’s dough, cheese and tomato at its core (Italians, please don't come for us). Nevertheless, life’s far too short to settle for anything average, especially in a city like London where great slices are everywhere. That is, if you know where to look...

From quick lunchtime grab-and-go spots to crusts capable of curing your hangover, and date-night worthy pizzerias, there’s a pie for every mood.

After plenty of taste-testing (tough job, we know), we’ve rounded up our 12 absolute favourite pizza spots in the capital.
So loosen that belt a little, here are the best pizzas in London. (Don't forget the hot honey for dipping your crusts!)

Spring Street Pizza

Spring Street Pizza

Where to find them: Arch 32 (next to Omeara Bar), Southwark Quarter, Southwark St, London, SE1 1TE

Takeaway available?: Yes

We order: The New Yorker

Just a stone’s throw from Borough Market, Spring Street Pizza is turning out some of the best New York-style pizza we’ve tasted in London. The 18-inch pizzas are seriously impressive - huge, thin and perfectly crisp. Plus you can go half-and-half on every flavour, which makes sharing (and choosing) so much easier.

We went for half Margherita and half New Yorker, topped with pepperoni, jalapeños and hot honey (also available halal with turkey). The base was spot on: crispy, light, flavoursome and just the right amount of chew.

While the pizza is the main event, the fried breadcrumbed mozzarella sticks were unreal. That cheese pull alone was a full TikTok moment. We also ordered the confit garlic aioli and jalapeños & sour cream dips, which were perfect for dunking our leftover crusts into. We wrapped things up with soft-serve gelato made with Estate Dairy milk and Madagascan vanilla, finished with salted caramel sauce.

With Michelin-starred chef Tom Kemble at the helm, the focus on quality ingredients really shines through - and judging by the New Jersey couple next to us calling it some of the best they’ve had in the UK, we’re not the only ones impressed.

2

Berberè Pizzeria

Where to find them: Marylebone, Tottenham Court Road, Clapham and Kentish Town

Takeaway available?: Yes

We order: Diavola Piccante

'Berberè is a seriously underrated small chain of pizza restaurants that come straight from Italy, so you know the pizza is going to be good. The live sourdough bases means you get the ultimate mix of soft pillowy dough and a crisp edge. And when it comes to the toppings, they keep things simple, the classic margherita is delicious and we sometimes like to switch it up with more meaty toppings and opt for the Diavola Piccante or the Salsiccia. Make sure to get all the dips for those crusts and don't leave without some tiramisu for dessert!' - Lydia Venn, senior entertainment and lifestyle writer

Sodo Pizza

Where to find them: Bethnal Green, Clapton, Hoxton, Deptford, Walthamstow and Hammersmith.

Takeaway available?: Yes

We order: The Wicker Man or The White Goat

"If you’re looking for delicious pizza on your doorstep, you might just be in luck with Sodo Pizza, which boasts locations in every corner of London.

"As we all know, sourdough is still king in the pizza biz, and at Sodo they take it particularly seriously (peep the name?). Their grains are grown in Buckinghamshire — by a farmer called John! — and their dough is fermented for a minimum of 48 hours, so a lot of love has gone into each and every pizza. Plus, all of Sodo’s ingredients are seasonal, so there’ll always be new inventions to try, whether you’re a meat-eater, vegan, or even a white pizza girlie.

"Don’t scrimp on those sides, either — sounds rogue, but may we recommend the picked veggies and fennel salami? Oh and there’s an impressive selection of local beers and natural wines to wash it all down. Enjoy!" - Brit Dawson, Sex and Relationships Editor

With low lighting and marble tabletops, the setting is perfect for romantic dates or catching up with pals (as I did.)

"As for the food? The pizzas is crispy and light with dippable crusts, thanks to dough that is fermented for 48 hours, and topped with seasonal ingredients, while the negronis are ice cold and moreish." - Dusty Baxter-Wright, Entertainment and Lifestyle Director

Mamma Dough

Where to find them: Brixton, Peckham, Sydenham, Ladywell and South Norwood.

Takeaway available?: Yes

We order: Hot Honey Dog or the Winter Greengrocer

When I first moved to London, this was the pizza I ordered on my first night in the city, and so it holds a special place in my heart. But also the pizza is just really good. The sourdough base is made with a combination of Shipton Mill organic rye, wholemeal and white flour. The rest of their ingredients are also sourced in the UK, even the mozzarella, resulting in some truly mouth-watering combinations. Oh, and on Mondays they do half price pizza, the perfect start to the week in our opinion.
