• A new report reveals the European honeymoon destination that has increased the most in popularity over the last two years, and it's not hard to see why.

Considering how expensive weddings can get, it's hardly surprising newlyweds are often looking for a cheap honeymoon destination for chilling out after the big day.

If you're in the midst of planning a ceremony of your own (hopefully on a day where rain isn't forecasted!) and want a budget-but-still-brilliant honeymoon option, Pinterest might have just the suggestion.

The platform revealed the usual European hotspots that couples choose for their honeymoon (Greece, Italy, France and so on) are actually being shunned in favour of Switzerland. Pins for Switzerland as a honeymoon destination are up 856% since 2017, suggesting people are prioritising active, outdoorsy holidays over lying on a sun lounger.

Switzerland is renowned for its skiing destinations, so if you've got a winter wedding planned and fancy blowing off some post-ceremony steam? Or love the idea of hiking through the fields Sound Of Music style with your new S/O? Switzerland as a European honeymoon destination might be perfect.

This comes as a new report from Money.co.uk predicted how much weddings will cost by 2028 - and it's a lot. According to their research, the average wedding cost hit an all-time-high of £27,000 in 2018, but is set to rise to £32,064 in the next 10 years.

Maybe we'll be looking at a honeymoon in Skegness rather than Switzerland by then.
