It's official. The news you have all been waiting for...the McRib is finally returning to McDonald's after nearly 10 years away. Honestly, it's like Christmas has come early.
The legendary McDonald's item features a tender pork patty in the shape of a rack of ribs, barbecue sauce, pickles, onions, all served in a homestyle bun and will return to McDonald's restaurants in just a matter of days, the fast-food chain has confirmed.
"It is more than just a sandwich; it’s a phenomenon. We have heard our fans loud and clear – the fan petitions and pleas on social - and after almost a decade of anticipation, we are thrilled to bring back this iconic menu item.
"Knowing how well-loved the McRib is, we had very little choice - we had to make it happen. It was time to step up and satisfy the cravings of McRib enthusiasts across the country," Thomas O’Neill, Head of Menu at McDonald’s UK said in a statement ahead of the relaunch.
The cult classic first appeared in UK stores in 1981, and has been making several appearances on the menu over the years. However, back in 2015 it was confirmed it would be disappearing completely from UK menus.
In the time since customers have only been able to try the McRib if they've travelled to Germany or Luxembourg, where it is a permanent feature on the menu. And tbf we would travel to another country for this sandwich.
Everyone's clicking on...
In recent years it's been making a gradual return on the other side of the pond, with a reappearance in the US in 2020 and in Canada in 2021.
As we couldn't contain our excitement enough we were lucky to be one of the first people to try it ahead of the launch.
And can we just say "wow". The McRib is just as juicy, BBQy and incredibly moreish as it was previously, with the warm pillowly bun soaking up all the flavours, making for one incredibly delicious meal.
The McRib will be available for a limited time only in the UK from 16th October. It costs £4.49 for the item on its own, or £6.19 as part of a medium extra value meal.
