Everyone knows you need to add a splash of seasoning to most dishes if you want them to taste good, right?

And we can bet that any red meat lovers among you definitely make sure your steak is nicely prepped with salt and pepper before you fry it.

Well, prepare to be as shocked as we were to discover that salting your meat before you cook it is apparently a massive no-no – at least according to the chefs at Gourmet Meat Club.

In a release on the most common meat myths, they revealed that salt should actually be added AFTER your steak is fried.

Say what!?

Yep, apparently doing the opposite will leave you with tough and dry meat!

Everyone's clicking on...

"When cooking red meat people assume the meat should firstly be seasoned with salt and pepper," they said. "This however, is a myth.

"Salting raw meat draws out the moisture and dehydrates it, making it tough when cooked. Instead, oil the meat before putting it in the hot pan or on the grill and season to taste once the meat is cooked."

Shocking, we know.

And, even more surprisingly, it looks like you shouldn't marinate your red meat before cooking it either.

In fact, you shouldn't really bother marinating it at all...

"Marinades do not penetrate red meat cells and therefore will not be absorbed, so will not add any additional flavour other than that on the surface," they added.

Minds blown.
