The correct way to pronounce words is a debate that really gets people heated: pri-va-cy versus priv-a-see, Sony or Sunny, the office-banter battlegrounds are varied. However, for most of the differences, there is not a right or wrong answer.

The argument over the pronunciation of sweet peanut-butter purveyor Ree-sees versus Ree-sis, however, is different because there IS a right answer. Brought back to life by the recently released third season of Orange Is The New Black (if you've seen it, you'll know what we mean), this debate has made it to Twitter, and it's getting ugly.

So let's break it down. There are two pronunciations of Reese's: Ree-SEES and Ree-SIS. The pronunciations aren't particularly regional, although it's easy to imagine that people from similar regions would pronounce it similarly.

The only way to officially settle the debate is to take a look at the brand's origins.

According to some Spoon U research, the original confection was named after HB Reese. Since these are his candy cups – and the wrapper dons the name Reese's – it means the candy's name is still confined to the boundaries of the English language.

Meaning, it's Ree-SIS.

Everyone's clicking on...

That's it. The debate is settled. Don't believe us? Check out this Reese's commercial for the new snack mix from earlier in 2017.

The proof is in the pudding, folks. This pronunciation goes for all Reese's products. So no, it's not "Ree-sees piec-ees," it's "Ree-sis piec-says". It's also "Ree-sis Big Cup" and "Ree-sis Ben & Jerry's", too.

So go win that argument against your colleague, you deserve it.
