15 most comfortable clogs to get ahead of autumn winter 2024's biggest shoe trend

From Birkenstocks to Kendall Jenner-approved Crocs - trust us, your feet will thank you

By

Can you hear that? It’s the sound of clogs clip-clopping their way into autumn. We’re calling it now, the OG shoe of 19th-century Dutch farmers has had a serious fashion upgrade and is occupying the top spot of the biggest new season footwear trend. And it’s no wonder why.

From kitten heels reigning supreme on last season's designer runways to mesh ballet pumps crowned the fashion girlie favourite and Emily In Paris only now in season four donning her first pair of flats, there has been a noticeable shift in shoe styles as of late. Namely: we’re finally prioritising comfort. Maybe not above fashion, but at least on par. Even at Chloé’s AW24 show, heel height might not have been compromised in the towering wooden platform wedges that were worn by the entirety of the front row, but silhouette certainly was. There was nary a stiletto heel in sight.

While the French fashion house offers a high-fashion take on the clog, the good news is there is plenty of variation in style if you want to get in on the look. We know what you’re thinking, wooden shoes can hardly be described as comfortable. But stick with us on this one.

For AW24, the classic, stacked-heel, studded designs loved by the likes of Sienna Miller and Sarah Jessica Parker now feature sherpa linings for maximum cosiness. For those wanting even more comfort, there are plenty of backless, slip-on rubber iterations (no, we’re not talking about jelly shoes) that encompass the same sole shape. After all, it’s the sturdy, platform base that differentiates a clog from a mule.

Or, you can follow Kendall Jenner and Amelia Gray’s lead. The models have thrown their backing behind the Gen Z-loved rubber clog with both of them seen in their Crocs. Yep, we can’t deny it’s a trend. And you know what they say: if you can’t beat them, join them…

As for how to style this trend, the best clogs are a trans-seasonal shoe hero. Meaning you can wear them in the warmer months of the year and all the way through to winter. Toughen up floaty summer dresses or pair with flared jeans and crochet to lean into the '70s fashion vibe. Take them to the office, wear them for post-work drinks and live in them at the weekend.

So, without further ado, keep scrolling to shop our roundup of the best, most comfortable clogs around right now. Trust us, your feet will thank you.
