Metallic tattoos to make your summer even more Instagrammable

The best metallic tattoo ideas

Metallic tattoos can be super cute, but what if you want something a little more permanent?

“I've never seen metallic ink, largely because heavy metals like that are toxic so you're not going to want to put that in your skin. Temporarily or not", tattoo artist Rosie Evans at MVL Tattoo told us.

BUMMER. Not only this, but Rosie explains that the skin isn't reflective in the same way that metals are, and so the effect would be nothing like you'd hoped for anyway.

The best alternative? "You can make permanent tattoos look metallic through the application of the design, either with light sources in some styles, or yellows and browns for gold and black, and grey for silver in traditional styles", Rosie tells us.

"If people are striving for a tattoo that looks like jewellery, that's easy too as there are plenty of delicate, ornamental designs out there.”

Otherwise, you're best off sticking to metallic transfer tattoos which have come a long way since they first became popular a few years ago. Not only can you get designs that look like bracelets, rings and body jewellery, but you can also buy star sign transfers, cute quotes and more.
