Prom is a pretty big occasion, so what do you do when your prom is the next day and you don't have a dress? Well, if you're Shami Oshun, you grab some purple netting and make your own dress.
The 17 year-old from California has been the talk of Twitter this week after she documented her design work on the social media site just 24-hours before her big prom night.
She made the gown using an old mini dress as a base and added embellishment details from other clothes.
Shami told The Metro: "I’m not a design student ‘I would like to be next year if possible. I took sewing lessons when I was 8 and then sewed with my aunt for a few summers. Dressmaking I taught myself by using my dress form. Trial and error."
That's some serious dedication but thankfully, Shami's all-nighter paid off as the end result was the most gorgeous purple strapless gown with see-through skirt and flower detailing.
Shami reckons that in the end the prom dress set her back just $15 in materials and the use of an old dress - a mere fraction of what a new gown would have cost.
If only we had Shami's skills we'd never buy a new dress again!
