I thought leaving coloured jeans behind in the ancient year of 2013 was one of the best style moves I could've made for myself. They were a fun, splashy way to play with bright colours, sure. But eventually, they just felt cheesy and random.

Fast forward over a decade, and lo and behold, coloured denim has been confirmed as a spring 2026 trend, and some of the best looks I’ve seen in the wild lately are ones featuring coloured denim. My 16-year-old self couldn't believe it. Only now, they don’t have that wild, alternative energy they once did. Instead, they’ve grown up (but still have those saturated hues!), reimagined with cleaner lines, sleek, cropped or straight shapes, and paired with elevated pieces like sharp leather jackets and tailored trenches.

If you’re sceptical, like I was, let these seven outfits do the talking. They range from muted earth tones to full-on brights, styled with everything from structured neutrals to playful textures. Consider this your case for adding some colour to your denim rotation.

With a coordinated jacket

Lemon yellow jeans may sound a little scary at first, but stay with me... This outfit proves they’re actually pretty easy to style. The barn jacket picks up the same yellow tones, and the colour shows up again in the bag and accessories, so the whole look feels cohesive. I know what you’re thinking. But what if I don’t have a perfectly matching jacket to go with my highlighter-yellow jeans? That’s totally okay! The trick is pulling the colour through in at least one other piece.

As a matching set

You can never go wrong with a matchy moment. We already love a Canadian tuxedo, so this just pushes that idea a little further. Wearing bright denim as part of a set instantly makes the colour feel intentional rather than random.

For anyone who loves a maximalist moment, this outfit shows how it’s done. The pink jeans, red top, blue coat, and burgundy bag bring plenty of personality, but the mix of colours keeps it surprisingly balanced. Don't be afraid to mix it up because it could actually be the perfect recipe!

There’s a reason the trench coat is such a closet staple! It goes with just about everything. I love how it’s styled here with olive bottoms, mixing a timeless classic with a more statement-making piece.

With complementary colours

Try pairing your coloured jeans with a contrasting shade that has the same intensity — that's why teal and burgundy work so well here. Both are rich and saturated, so they complement each other, instead of competing. Think jewel tones with jewel tones, or muted with muted. As long as the colours are playing at the same level, the outfit does the hard work for you.

With a structured layer

Muted colored jeans – we're talking tan, olive, cream – can run the risk of looking a little plain on their own. The fix? A structured top with some shape to it. The belted jacket here gives this outfit a defined silhouette, which takes the jeans from basic to elevated, without the need for a single bold colour. Proof that coloured jeans don't have to be loud to be interesting.

If you're not ready to go full colour-on-colour, let your jeans do all the talking. A neutral jacket – tan, black, cream, whatever you've already got – keeps the focus on the colour of your jeans, without making the outfit feel like too much. This is honestly the easiest entry point if you're new to the coloured jeans thing!
