After what felt like a never-ending winter, consisting of months spent snuggled up in our thickest, warmest wool coats, we would be lying if we said we hadn’t struggled sartorially with the transition into spring. Don’t get us wrong, we’re welcoming the blue skies and lighter evenings with open arms, but it’s almost as if we’ve forgotten how to dress for spring weather. We’re currently alternating between a sweaty morning commute in outerwear that’s just a bit too insulated, or shivering in the chilly March breeze in a layer that's far too lightweight.

The key to mastering transseasonal dressing is in your jacket of choice. Luckily, there are plenty of spring jacket trends to choose from this season. These pieces will do the heavy lifting in any outfit, meaning you can keep the rest of your look simple with jeans and a nice top. AKA our favourite go-to outfit formula.

From statement silhouettes to distinctive details, these jacket styles make even the simplest of ensembles feel intentional. Below, find the best spring jacket trends to wear with jeans, whether straight, barrel or wide-leg.

Funnel neck jackets first emerged in full force on last season's runways, but the style has been reconfigured for spring in lighter fabrics, per Victoria Beckham and Altuzarra. The easiest way to make an instant statement, as well as stopping cold breezes rushing down the back of your neck, the funnel neck comes cool-girl approved, and that's all we really need to know.

Trench coats are synonymous with spring, but this season, there are more variations on the traditional style than ever before. As well as cropped lengths (more on that below), plus variations in colour – think olive green and burgundy hues – cape add-ons and cinched waists are giving this timeless spring jacket a fresh take.

Windbreaker

This lightweight jacket has undeniable sports connotations as it's often made from synthetic materials like nylon or polyester that are ideal for outdoor activewear. Lean into the casual aesthetic with baggy jeans and trainers, or embrace contrast and dress it up with tailored denim and heels. There are plenty of bold and bright designs available on the high street if you want to add a colour pop to your outfit, as seen on the Loewe and Tory Burch SS26 runways.

A leather jacket is never not in style, but this season, more relaxed, oversized silhouettes are dominating. While black is a classic, chocolate brown hues offer a sophisticated alternative that works especially well with medium to light washes of denim.

Don't be put off by the word ‘cropped.’ We're not talking about rib-grazing designs here, but rather jackets that finish between your waist and the top of your hips. Opt for high-waist jeans to add further polish to your overall look.

Utilitarian details

From multi-pocket chore jackets to drawstring bombers, utilitarian details can be seen adorning a number of spring jacket silhouettes for a workwear vibe this season. Despite all the add-ons, utility jackets feel largely no-fuss thanks to their often easy, relaxed fit that places practicality at the forefront – making them the perfect companion to your jeans.
