Dressing for spring can be the trickiest of tasks. When the UK weather is so changeable, it's hard to know whether to grab your puffer jacket or your windbreaker. And don't get us started on factoring in the heat of the underground... it might be cold outside, but as soon as you're on the tube you'll be wanting to strip off all those extra layers you thought wise to put on in the morning.
That's why trench coats have become the ultimate wardrobe hero when it comes to spring outerwear. As soon as it's consistently hitting above 10° outside, you can be sure to notice trenches being worn en masse. Whether they're cropped, double-breasted, brown, cream, or green, their light material and loose-fitting nature make them ideal for springtime dressing.
This option from Primark is a cropped version of the classic trench, which we have been seeing everywhere lately. It's in a deeper hue too! The khaki green makes a nice change from the typical creams and beiges (although Primark does also offer this jacket in a lighter colourway if you're a fan of the OG trench aesthetic).
If you're looking for a more oversized fit, it might be worth sizing up. Not only will this create a slightly more relaxed, casual vibe, but it will also give you more room to add layers underneath the jacket, which is a great way to get creative with your outfits.
The fit is quite boxy and structured, especially around the shoulders, making it a great option to throw on as you head to the office; it immediately makes any outfit look chic and put together. It falls just at the waistline, and we love pairing pieces that sit here with wide-leg jeans or A-line skirts, as it creates a really flattering silhouette: cinching at the waist, which then tapers out again by the ankle.
And for just £24, it really is a worthwhile investment. It can be hard to find quality jackets that don't break the bank, and considering how much wear you will likely get out of a trench coat, it seems like a no-brainer to us!
