We have been eagerly counting down the days until spring's arrival, but it does seem like the weather hasn't exactly gotten the memo. Sure, blue skies, no rain, and the fact it's actually light after 5 pm are all welcome signs we're now officially in March, but is it too much to ask for seasonally suitable temperatures too?! We'd like 15 degrees or warmer, ideally – if the weatherman's taking requests.
Alas, it seems our cotton dresses will have to stay hanging in our wardrobes a little while longer. But, if you are looking to make a noticeable outfit update in line with the new season, may we suggest you invest in a denim midi dress? An undeniably popular choice at this time of year, they combine comfort, durability and style all in one easy look. None more so than Next's denim short-sleeve shirt maxi dress in the perfect shade of mid-blue.
Consisting of a classic shirt silhouette with a collared neckline and button-down front, a belted waist provides some welcome shape and definition, leading to a flattering A-line skirt that flows to the mid-calf. Relaxed short-sleeves that hit at the elbow add to the easy, effortless feel of the denim design.
Part of their appeal is no doubt down to the styling potential and their easy adaptability to spring's unpredictable, fluctuating forecasts. Layer a long-sleeve roll-neck underneath and add knee-high boots for chillier days, then embrace bare-leg weather and slip your feet into woven ballet flats when the sun comes out.
The spring/summer 2026 runways clearly agree that this is ideal spring dressing as Gabriela Hearst, Maison Margiela, Ahluwalia, Zimmermann and more all featured denim dresses in their collections. As such, the high street is currently flooded with endless variations, so if Next's style isn't quite right for you, shop our round-up below.
