It’s that time of the year when the right outerwear can single-handedly carry your entire outfit, and this year’s biggest trends are all about texture and structure.

Whether you’re tapping into that countryside-cool barn vibe, reaching for a forever-classic trench coat, or wrapping up in fabulous faux, these pieces aren’t just practical layers — they’re the starting (or finishing, depending on how you look at it) point for a seriously chic outfit.

Here’s how I’m styling some of my favourite jackets and coats already living in my wardrobe.

Country-Cool Barn Jacket

My FYP has been overflowing with women embracing the slow life — escaping to the countryside, soaking up gentle mornings, and treating rest like the luxury it’s become. As “romanticise your life” content continues to trend, the girl-boss, go-go-go city aesthetic is quietly fading into the background. With more of us craving a little peace (or at least dressing like we have it), the barn jacket brings that country-cool, cosy-but-practical vibe straight into your city wardrobe. It’s the soft-life uniform made wearable for every day — relaxed, intentional, and still undeniably chic.

The Effortless Trench Coat

I’m all about injecting colour into my life — so instead of reaching for the classic camel trench, I’m switching things up and rocking pink. I adore a timeless staple, but who decided classics have to be safe? My bold trench still gives all the elegance and structure of the original, just with a lot more joy woven in. And honestly, when the skies are grey, I’ll take joy anywhere I can get it.

Whether I’m dressing it up with a sequin skirt and a cosy jumper for party season, or keeping things more low-key, I’m stepping out in an outfit that instantly lifts my mood. A pop of pink might not be traditional in your book — but truly, that’s the whole point. Consider this your sign to step out of your comfort zone this season.

The Faux Fur Coat

My favourite thing about this time of year is slipping back into my faux fur jackets. There’s nothing like being cosy while still looking absolutely fabulous. And while I keep reaching for my beloved cropped brown one right now, I can proudly confess I also have two in white, one in orange, and even one in purple. The love runs deep… embarrassingly deep.

Because truly, there’s nothing worse than putting on a gorgeous dress and then having to throw a puffer jacket over it “for practicality.” It instantly kills the vibe. Faux fur, on the other hand, keeps you warm and keeps the fantasy intact — plush and luxe, without sacrificing the outfit beneath.

Whenever I wear one, I feel like I should be heading somewhere candlelit for dinner or wandering through a Christmas market with a hot chocolate, taking in the lights. So, whether I pair mine with a slip dress and kitten heels or throw it over animal-print wide-leg jeans and a white tee for an off-duty look, it instantly elevates whatever I’m wearing. The texture does all the heavy lifting, and I get to enjoy the glamour and the warmth.
