It’s official — we’re in the midst of a heatwave. As temperatures rise across the UK, many of us are navigating sweaty train or car journeys to work, sticky park hang-outs and sweltering, sleepless nights. But let’s not complain, because British summer time usually means pouring rain…
Nonetheless, what to wear in the heat is a challenge. Unless you’re lounging around in a bikini by a pool all day, looking stylish and staying cool don’t exactly go hand-in-hand. However, we're here to prove this idea wrong! We’ve trawled through the street-style set’s best looks to provide major outfit inspo. Save for the next time you’re wondering if you can wear the same floaty dress or pair of denim shorts again…you’re welcome.
Knitted vest and denim maxi skirt
Stripes are majorly in ATM, and we love this wearer’s multi-coloured vest tucked into her stonewash denim maxi skirt. Styled with layers of beaded necklaces, oversized aviator sunglasses and Ganni ballet pumps, this is a look that will easily take you from day to night without breaking a sweat.
Floral dress and platform flip-flops
When the sun is shining, it just makes sense to embrace colour. This wearer’s body-con maxi dress is lightweight yet eye-catching, and we love how she’s paired it with highlighter yellow wedge flip-flops.
Camo shorts and ribbed tank top
Whether they’re Bermuda or denim, oversized baggy shorts are the trend that just won’t let up. Breezy, comfortable and stylish, there’s several reasons why we can’t get enough of them. This wearer has opted for a statement camo pair, worn with an asymmetrical ribbed tank top to offset the warmth of the leather biker boots. Smart, right?
Scarf top and oversized blazer
Nothing says summer like a scarf top. The handkerchief shape is super flattering, and while it may be somewhat revealing at the back, if you’re heading to the office you can easily cover up with an oversized yet lightweight blazer. Bonus points for matching tailored shorts — linen is your friend here.

Milkmaid dress and headscarf
White reflects the sun, so if you’re going to be outside for long periods of time, opt for this colour choice. The fitted bodice and puff sleeves of this wearer’s milkmaid dress are super feminine, and the looser fit of the skirt means keeping ultra cool. A crochet headscarf adds to the cottage-core vibes, but the gold earrings and mesh flats add a level of polish.
Graphic T-shirt and bubble skirt
Never underestimate the power of the humble T-shirt. Opt for an oversized fit and natural fibres such as cotton in warmer weather. A punchy graphic design keeps things interesting, and tucked into a bubble mini skirt creates balance in your silhouette. We love how this wearer has added a touch of glam to her outfit with point-toe metallic mules and matching handbag.
Wrap maxi dress and trainers
Wrap dresses have a beachy feel that match perfectly with summer’s vibe, even when you’re in a city. This wearer’s cap sleeve mesh number is just calling out for a park date. Keep things comfy with a pair of trainers and you’re good to go.
Gingham shirt and embellished midi skirt
Gingham never goes out of style — we’re obsessed with this wearer’s boxy shirt in bright red. The oversized shape and undone buttons keeps things breezy, while the embellished midi skirt makes the whole ensemble feel chic and ladylike.
