Think of iconic Italian fashion houses – Gucci, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana – and the list is not complete without Versace. But, after 27 years at the helm, Donatella Versace announced just last week she would be stepping down as the brand's creative director. While the 69-year-old designer will continue on as chief brand ambassador, former Miu Miu design director Dario Vitale will be taking over as chief creative officer. His appointment marking a break in tradition after 47 years of the label kept in the family.

Truly the end of an era, the Donatella dynasty started after the brand's founder and Donatella's brother Gianni Versace was murdered in 1997, shot outside his Miami mansion. Having credited his sister as his ultimate muse, Donatella stepped into his shoes to become, even in a stereotypically feminine industry as fashion, one of the few women at the top. With her platinum blonde hair and eyes lined in thick black liner, she is as famous as the A-listers who've worn her designs.

And there have been many. Major moments include Jennifer Lopez's plunging palm print dress at the 2000 Grammys, Jennifer Garner's instantly recognisable multicoloured 13 Going on 30 mini dress, Angelina Jolie at the 2012 Academy Awards in a black velvet strapless gown that redefined leg slits (you know the one), the supermodel comeback of 2017 that saw Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Claudia Schiffer reunite on the Versace runway, Blake Lively's hard-to-forget transforming 2022 Met Gala dress, and even a collab with pop royalty, Dua Lipa.

Yep, it is Donatella's ability to turn the catwalk into a true spectacle alongside breathtaking red carpet looks that make Versace what it is. So it's no wonder so many celebrities have been taking to Instagram to pay tribute to the designer with posts honouring her legacy. From campaign images and runway cameos to behind-the-scenes snaps, candid moments and *so* many naked dresses, keep scrolling to see all the A-list acknowledgements from Gigi Hadid, Emily Ratajkowksi, Rita Ora and more.

Dua Lipa

Opening a tribute post with a thong-exposing backless dress is the perfect summary of Donatella's legacy: unapologetically bold and glamorous fashion. With images mainly linked to her collaboration collection with the fashion house, Dua kept her caption short and sweet, writing simply, “Noone does it like you @donatella_versace 💗!!!!!”

2

Bella Hadid

The supermodel took the opportunity to highlight all her Versace experiences with official campaign clips and images alongside runway photos and plenty of shots of Donatella and Bella candidly smiling and embracing.

4

Gigi Hadid

Crediting Donatella with her first big runway appearance, Gigi Hadid took the opportunity to highlight her 10-year career with Versace through campaigns, fashion shows and red carpet appearances. As well as thanking the designer, Gigi signed off her post, “4ever your girl.” We're not crying, you are!

Emily Ratajkowski

We don't know what we love more, the candid clip EmRata included of Donatella introducing herself as “the Donatella Versace” (scroll to slide two) or the snap of her cradling the model's son, Sylvester.

Rita Ora

Rita Ora took to her Instagram stories to share a photo of herself wearing a plunging Versace design. She wrote over the image, “You helped me understand fashion, to express my female power and to be SO proud of it. Thank you @donatella_versace 🙏❤️”.
