Last night, the Wednesday Season 2 premiere took over Central Hall in London and Jenna Ortega (who plays the series’ titular character) stepped out in a look that was a clear homage to her co-star Lady Gaga.
While Mother Monster wasn’t at the premiere herself, Jenna’s look embodied one of her most iconic performances — the 2011 Grammy’s (where she arrived in a Hussein Chalayan designed egg, nonetheless). Jenna’s Ashi Studio autumn/winter 2025 couture gown looked to be constructed of sheer, milky yellow-toned latex, and printed with subtle reptilian scales. The look was perfectly completed by her goth glam bleached brows and dark cherry lips. My instant reaction: haven’t I seen this somewhere before…?
Gaga’s Born This Way era saw her regularly experimenting with alien-like prosthetics, exaggerating her cheekbones and shoulders. For the 2011 Grammy’s performance, she wore a sheer ensemble by London-based latex label Atsuko Kudo, with all of her dancers dressed in similar outfits. While Gaga’s look was a top and skirt, and not a dress like Jenna’s, the high neck and maxi skirt silhouette parallels simply can’t be ignored — and not to mention the make-up.
This isn’t the first time Jenna has paid homage to fashion icons who came before her, as back in May, the actress stepped out in not one, but two Carrie Bradshaw replica outfits that sent the internet into a meltdown. Promoting her film Hurry Up Tomorrow, she wore the legendary John Galliano for Dior newspaper print dress which featured throughout the Sex and The City series, before changing into a micro naked slip dress and oversized fur coat, reminiscent of Carrie’s first date look with Mr Big in Season One. Basically, she knows what she’s doing.
But clearly, she's moved on to a new style inspiration. Last month, Jenna joined Gaga onstage at Netflix’s Tudum event, where she emerged from a coffin to perform appropriately spooky hits including Zombieboy, Bloody Mary and Abracadabra.
According to the streaming service, Gaga’s cameo role in the series will feature her as a teacher named Rosaline Rotwood at Nevermore Academy. Now, this is a class I will most definitely be attending.
