It seems like just yesterday (okay, maybe a few weeks ago) that the nation came out to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee and so much happened during that time: from Prince Louis's limelight-stealing moments to a poignant St Paul's Cathedral service.

The events over that bank holiday weekend were surely a pinnacle in the royal calendar, marking our monarch's seven decades on the throne and continued service to the public. However, the royal splendour shows no sign of stopping any time soon, as evidenced by yesterday's Royal Ascot: a prestigious horse-racing event that gave Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge a time to shine (and pull some serious fashion looks) after participating in a traditional carriage procession.

Kate Middleton stepped out in a midi dress with brown polka dots designed by Alessandra Rich, paired with pearl drop earrings and a brown clutch and topped off with a dainty hat by Sally-Ann Provan. By her side, Prince William sported a black top hat, tailcoat and blue tie, looking sophisticated for the occasion.

Kate's look might be familiar to any royal fans reading at home as it gives a serious deja-vu throwback to an Ascot outfit of yesteryear, worn by none other than Princess Diana. Back in 1988, Prince William's late mother wore a similar outfit to Ascot, comprising of a black and white spotted dress by Victor Edelstein, topped off by a Philip Somerville hat.

This isn't the first time that Kate has made reference to Princess Diana with her fashion choices and, as recently as the Jubilee, chose to remember her by donning sapphire and diamond earrings which once belonged to her late mother-in-law.

So touching!
