ICYMI, there's a new Gossip Girl in town - that's right, a reboot is on the way. Did I hear a Hallelujah? The limited-edition series will feature 10 one-hour episodes, and it will take place eight years after the original addictive drama ended. And as fans will tell you, the fabulous and OTT designer outfits the characters wore played a close second to the stream of outrageous drama the show churned out.
While the show will still centre around a group of privileged teens living in New York City, the new cast already appears more diverse than the old cast - which we love. From what we've seen so far, the new cast will continue the show's tradition of wearing some major designer looks - just with an updated 2021 spin on style.
In a teaser clip, we see new character Julien Calloway, played by Jordan Alexander, lounging on the famous Met steps with a shaved head and knee-high, kitten heeled cream boots. A fair departure from the old show's styling, then, which featured almost exclusively candy-coloured prep school looks (Blair Waldorf and her crew), or early-noughties bohemian hits (Serena van der Woodsen, Vanessa Abrams, and the Humphrey men).
Famed costume designer Eric Daman, who created the original series' oft-copied looks, will be joining the team again for HBO Max's reboot. We can't wait to see how he will style the new cast, who are growing up in a very different New York to the old cast.
While we wait, let's do a nostalgic deep-dive and revisit some of Gossip Girl's original iconic looks. Hold on to your plaid skirts and click through for a blast from the past...
