Bridget Jones's Diary cast then and now as film turns 20

After Bridget Jones's Diary, Grant appeared in About A Boy, Love Actually and the second Bridget Jones movie, Edge of Reason. But when it came to the third, he turned it down because he didn't think the script was up to scratch. But if asked to work with Renee again now, it sounds like it would be an unwavering, straight up yes. "I love Renée," he said in a recent interview with SiriusXM's The Jess Cagle Show. "She's one of the few actresses I haven't fallen out with, and, we, we got on very well together and, we still exchange long emails."

He added, "She's a properly good egg and a genius. Did you see her as Judy Garland? About as good as acting gets."

Like his lead co-stars, Firth went on to receive plaudits for a range of impressive movies, from 2008's Mamma Mia to 2009's A Single Man and 2010's The King's Speech, for which he won the Best Actor Oscar. As well as The Kingsman movies, he also recently appeared in 1917 with Richard Madden and Mark Strong.

Before Bridget Jones, Sally created and co-wrote Channel 4’s wildly successful Smack The Pony. In 2003, The Observer ranked her one of the funniest 50 acts in British comedy. As well as a long list of recurring TV roles and the title role in the BBC radio sitcom Clare in the Community, she also played Tilly in Miranda from 2009 to 2015. Fun fact: she initially auditioned for the role of Bridget.

As well as appearing in all three Bridget films as Jude, Shirley’s biggest film roles include Trainspotting and playing Moaning Myrtle in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Shirley also appeared in Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day and Anna Karenina, and played Frances Drummond in the BBC’s Happy Valley.

Another Oscar winner, Jim won the Best Supporting Actor gong for his role as John Bayley in 2001 film Iris. He's also won multiple BAFTA and Golden Globes awards over the years. His films include The Borrowers, Moulin Rouge, Gangs of New York, Around the World in 80 Days, Hot Fuzz, King Lear and The Chronicles of Narnia, to name just a few.

In 2006, Celia, who played the meddling Una, won the Olivier Award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical for her part in Acorn Antiques: The Musical alongside Julie Walters. Her most famous films includes Calendar Girls, Nanny McPhee, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and Malevolent. On top of her acting work, Celia has released five novels, with her first spending six weeks in The Sunday Times Top Ten.

Bridget Jones’s Diary was James’s first feature film, and he went on to appear in the second and third movies as Bridget's friend Tom. Aside from the franchise, one of his biggest roles was in the Battlestar Galactica TV series in which he played Gaius Baltar from 2004-2009. He also had small roles in Midsomer Murders, CSI and Black and Treasure.

Gemma had racked up an incredible list of acting credits before Bridget Jones's Diary, and went on to star as Poppy Pomfrey in three Harry Potter films following the 2001 release. From 2007 to 2008, she played Connie James in the BBC1 drama Spooks and most recently appeared in romantic drama Ammonite with Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan.
