9 things you didn't know about Netflix's Ratched and the cast

The actress who plays Nurse Ratched was an Executive Producer on the show, and she had known Cynthia for many years before they embarked on the project.

It just so happened that most of their scenes were together and in between filming they would hang out too.

“We chatted and talked about the theatre,” Cynthia told Cosmopolitan. “We’re old friends.”

Finn Wittrock who plays serial killer Edmund Tolleson said he created a carefully curated playlist to get into the head of his character. “It was dark territory to be in for a while," he told Netflix. "I had created this playlist that I would play to myself in the car or in the trailer.

"It was a random compilation of Nine Inch Nails, and then some Beethoven."

Charlie Carver who plays orderly, Huck, used the film The Elephant Man as inspiration for his role.

In the show, Huck has recently returned from serving in World War II, where he was wounded, suffering disfigurement to his face.

Charlie told Netflix, “Ryan shared some of the references that he thought might be fun to play with such as The Elephant Man, and Huck’s qualities of sweetness in this hospital where there's some pretty horrific stuff going on."

Ryan Murphy wanted to work with Sharon Stone so much that he wrote the part of Lenore just for her. He took her out to lunch to tell her.

But Sharon was a bit hesitant at first. She told Cosmopolitan, “I really wanted to work with Ryan, but it’s a stunning thing to sit down in front of him and have him say, ‘I’m writing this part for you.’

“I’ve played so many really complicated characters, so sometimes I’m like, ‘what now?’ So when he says, ‘I’m writing a character for you, you go, ‘Ok… what am I going to be doing in this character?’

"I could be killing, stabbing, maiming, playing three people at the same time... So you have to buckle up.”

Never mind Sharon Stone and her pet monkey, the actress that everyone was obsessed with on the show was Judy Davis who plays Nurse Betsy Bucket.

Cynthia Nixon told Cosmopolitan, “We all worship Judy Davis and Sarah went on the internet and found all these different T-shirts that said, ‘Judy F***ing Davis’.

“So Sarah ordered a tonne of T-shirts for people to wear and waited until Judy’s very last take. Then everybody threw off their jackets and [showed off] Judy Davis paraphernalia including our dresser who has many tattoos and went out and got a tattoo that said ‘Judy F***ing Davis’!"

Lenore Osgood is killed in the show by her own gardener, at the request of her son Henry. She gets a pitch fork through her back.

“It was pretty easy,” Sharon told Cosmopolitan. “We had the director yelling ‘Oh, I love that. I’m just so into it’.

"So we got it in the pieces that we needed to get it, because it was also much more difficult for Brandon Flynn, the lovely young man who played my son.

"He had to play a quadriplegic so it was much more complicated for him."

Sharon contributed many of her own belongings because she enjoyed getting into character so much.

“I used some of my own jewellery and a pair of my glasses… I brought a cigarette case that I had, to be my own prop.

"It was just this whole creation of this character. She was so extra because she was so insecure.”
