The nights are drawing in, the rain is lashing down - but that's OK, because we'll happily cancel all of our plans to get cosy on the sofa instead to watch these thrilling dramas coming up this Autumn. Here's what you can expect from Netflix, BBC and ITV as we head into the winter months, if you're hoping for some psychological thrillers or crime dramas to keep you entertained every evening.

Best Autumn thrillers - Giri/Haji

Giri Haji
BBC

Set in Tokyo and London, the BBC2 and Netflix series follows Japanese detective Kenzo (Takehiro Hira) goes to London to hunt down his assassin brother who he thought was dead.

Kenzo’s search catches the attention of two fellow lost souls: DC Sarah Weitzmann (Kelly Macdonald) - an ostracized police officer who is part of the official investigation into the crime that brought Kenzo to London, and gregarious, half-Japanese rent boy Rodney (Will Sharpe). You will fall in love with Rodney, guaranteed.

Giri/Haji will air on BBC2 and Netflix later this month.

Best Autumn thrillers - Dublin Murders

Dublin Murders
BBC

Adapted from Tana French's acclaimed crime novels, this dark, psychological mystery follows two ambitious and charismatic detectives, Rob Reilly and Cassie Maddox as they investigate the murder of a young girl. The atmospheric drama also has elements of the supernatural.

Dublin Murders arrives on BBC1 later this month.

His Dark Materials

Ruth Wilson, Lin-Manuel Miranda and James McAvoy star in BBC and HBO's adaptation of Philip Pullman's epic trilogy of fantasy novels.

The show follows Lyra, a brave young woman from another world. Lyra’s quest to find her kidnapped friend leads her to uncover a sinister plot of a secret organisation, encounter extraordinary beings and protect dangerous secrets.

His Dark Materials arrives on BBC1 and Sky Atlantic later this year.

Best Autumn thrillers - War of the Worlds

War of the Worlds

Eleanor Tomlinson and Rafe Spall star in BBC1's epic adaptation of H.G. Wells classic sci-fi thriller. Set in Edwardian England, young couple George and Amy grapple with a terrifying alien invasion.

The War of the Worlds airs on BBC1 later this month.

Best Autumn thrillers - Honour

ITV's Honour is based on the true story of Banaz Mahmod, who was murdered in 2006 after her father and uncle ordered her death when she left her violent husband and began a relationship with another man.

The series will follow Keeley Hawes as Detective Chief Inspector Caroline Goode who brought Banaz's killers to justice.

Honour airs on ITV later this year.
