If you’re the kind of person that highlighted the entirety of your GCSE English book and live for a Penguin classic, then My Cousin Rachel is the one for you. Cast away those ideas of bonnets and male-written female protagonists and instead follow the gritty interpretation of Daphne Du Maurier’s novel about a man intent on hating his late cousin’s wife as he becomes dangerously bewitched by her. Even if you just have one eye on the screen, Bridesmaids is the kind of the film where no matter how many times you’ve watched it, it still makes you cackle. Okay not going to lie, it’s been 17 years and we still have little to no clue what that rabbit is about and what it was exactly that we watched. But Jake Gyllenhaal’s breakthrough film and all its weirdness is a modern masterpiece. The flitting between moody teenage dinner table conversations and supernatural visions means you have to have peak concentration, but boy is it worth it.

Winner: Mrs. Doubtfire

Robin Williams was a comic genius and the film that tops them all is (hands down) Mrs. Doubtfire. A guy so desperate to see his kids that he disguises himself as a kindly old Scottish lady and becomes their nanny - we mean, what’s not to love? The scene where Pierce Brosnan is pelted with a lime is also iconic cinema.

Winner: Step Up

Nominees: Baywatch, Miss Congeniality, Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, Step Up

TBH there’s not much we feel guilty about here. Step Up is inspired and we’ll battle with anyone who tries to make us think otherwise. Besides, how can the haters tear down a film that’s responsible for bringing together the angels that are Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan? It may also be the film that inspired us to sign up for street dance lessons at a young age...

Winner: Raw

Nominees: Elle, Raw, La Dolce Vita, Sand Storm, The Wailing

There’s nothing like a film that requires reading to make you feel like an art student living in Paris for a year abroad with a lover named Claude. Of course, it helps if the film is actually good. If you’re up for being served some dark satire, rich symbolism and a vegetarian-turned-cannibal with your culture, Raw is the one (you can stream this one on NOW TV too). The French-Belgian horror about a veterinary student’s desire to fit in cuts deep below the surface and is one of those films that you’ll be thinking about weeks after the credits roll.
