Warning: Contains major spoilers for The Capture season three finale

OMG is everyone ok after watching that explosive The Capture season three finale? We think we're going to need a lie down after that. After five incredibly tense episodes, tonight's sixth and final episode culminated in a shocking scene that saw Gemma Garland (Lia Williams) killed by Noah Pierson (Killian Scott), but er, is she actually dead?

During the epic finale episode, beloved main character Rachel Carey, played by Holliday Grainger, is really put through the ringer as she's kidnapped by The Increment who try to convince her they have captured her sister Abigail too, she then sees her old mentor Gemma killed by Pierson.

Rachel then finally manages to prove Pierson killed Isaac Turner, only to have The Increment put out a hit that Pierson was a Russian spy, and on top of all that she hasn't slept in about five days.

The episode then ended with Rachel finally getting a moment of peace with Abigail (who wasn't killed btw) and the pair have drink on the sofa and take a selfie together. After Abigail heads to bed, Rachel then looks at the pictures they took, only to see what looks like an alive Gemma in the background. When she turns around Gemma is nowhere to be seen.

So is Gemma actually alive? We asked Holliday Grainger.

"Well, that’s the question, isn’t it?" Holliday said while speaking exclusively to Cosmopolitan UK ahead of the series finale, in reference to Gemma's death. "I mean, do you believe what you see?"

We all saw the bullet go straight through Gemma's head and so it is very unlikely the real Gemma could return, but is there a chance we could see her return in an avatar or AI sense? Or was her appearance in the photo simply another trick by The Increment to make Carey doubt her own mind?

Gemma wasn't the only person Carey lost this season, with her other former mentor Frank Napier (Ron Perlman) being killed by Pierson at the end of episode three. Should the series return, their deaths will likely have a profound effect on how Carey moves forward.

"Both Napier and Garland at times have been her arch-enemies, but they’re also people that she has learned to respect and trust and mutually use for mutual benefits between them," Holliday said in reference to the pair's death. "And so there is this slight element of her [Carey] being out on her own, with both of their deaths. And [there's] a hopelessness to it too."

A fourth season is yet to be confirmed, with Holliday explaining series showrunner Ben Chanan had always intended for the show to be a trilogy, however Holliday did tease her own theories about what another potential season could explore.

"I mean, if I was Carey, I’d want to know, in order to trust Simon, who programmed Simon? Who’s behind that?" she ponders in reference to the AI war programme used by The Increment.

Now that we would love to see happen. BBC, what are you waiting for?
