After six tense and increasingly chilling episodes, Gone has finished on ITV1 tonight, revealing who Sarah Polly's actual killer was. With multiple suspects, unexpected twists and shocking revelations it's been a rollercoaster of a series, and many fans are demanding the show returns for another season.

Gone saw strict school headmaster Michael Polly (David Morrissey) become the prime suspect in his wife's disappearance and subsequent murder, with detective Annie Cassidy (Eve Myles) assigned as the family liaison officer but takes investigating into her own hands. And it's her detective work and skills that allows her to discover the killer of Sarah was actually (spoiler alert!) Rory, the deputy headmaster at the school Sarah taught at.

Though Sarah's case has been wrapped up, many fans want the show to return so they can get answers about the unsolved cold case. So will the show get a second season? Here's everything we know.

Has Gone been confirmed for a season 2?

As of yet ITV has not confirmed a second season of Gone. Fans of the show have expressed their interest in the show returning after the case of Tina Bradley was never solved.

Back in episode one it was revealed Annie was not only working on the current disappearance of Sarah Polly, but had for the last 20 years also been working on the disappearance of Tina Bradley.

Throughout the series she is shown as close to Tina's mother, whom she sees every week, and tells her she is not giving up on her case. However, as the series progresses Tina's mother expresses her doubt in ever seeing her daughter again.

Many fans have suggested the series should return in order to solve Tina's case, with one fan saying on Reddit: "There was a lot that was absolutely pointless if they’re not doing a series two," and another said on Instagram: "I really hope a 2nd season gets ordered!"

What could happen in Gone season 2?

If a second season does get approved we would hope it would in part at least see Annie dive deeper into the disappearance of Tina, and maybe even find out what really happened to her.

There's also a chance the series could pick up with Annie and have her solve other cases alongside DC Becky Hammond.

Who could feature in Gone season 2?

If we do get to see Gone return for another season, it's unlikely that the show will see David Morrissey and Emma Appleton as Michael and Alana Polly as the case of Sarah's death has been solved.

However, we would expect the following characters to return to carry on investigating other cases:

  • Eve Myles as DS Annie Cassidy
  • Jennifer Macbeth as DC Becky Hammond
  • Peter McDonald as DI Craig Stanhope
  • Oscar Batterham as DC Duncan Carmoody
  • Jodie McNee as DC Nira Barker

We're keeping our fingers crossed for that season two confirmation!
