Have you been watching ITV’s new crime thriller, Gone? Well get ready for the big reveal of Sarah Polly’s killer, because the season finale airs tonight.

Centring around local headmaster Michael Polly (played by David Morrissey), we follow him as the lead suspect in a police investigation after his wife’s sudden disappearance.

But fans have expressed their let-down at the ‘unsatisfying’ final episode. After weeks of asking “Who killed Sarah Polly?!”, and five episodes leading up to the reveal, Gone viewers are all saying the same thing about its ending.

Sarah Polly’s killer is revealed in a sit-down confession with DC Annie Cassidy. Spoiler alert: it was the deputy head teacher, Rory Bowman.

Did you see it coming? Apparently no one did, with fans disappointed by the lack of clues throughout the episodes leading up to it.

One viewer wrote on Reddit: “Enjoyed it but found the ending, out of nowhere, to be completely unsatisfying.”

Another said: “The ending felt a bit…random? Unsatisfying?"

Rory’s confession is pried out of him by Annie, after she enters his home in search of evidence.

She coaxes Rory into describing their altercation. Rory explains that Sarah “wouldn’t stop shouting”, after he confronted her about her affair with Stephen.

Without him actually stating the words, close-ups of his hands in a strangling gesture confirm him as the killer.

But fans are frustrated about the distinct lack of clues in the build-up to the confession.

One said: “No point watching the previous episodes as they just seemed to write a random ending to ensure that no-one would be able to guess the killer.”

And another expressed their annoyance, saying: “There was a lot that was absolutely pointless if they’re not doing a series two.”

The series ending teases that it may not be the end for DC Cassidy, as she’s left with the unsolved Tina Bradley case...

We’re eagerly awaiting the news about a series two!

Gone is available on ITVX now.
