After an explosive final series in 2022, the Peaky Blinders return today for an epic two-hour saga, with Tommy Shelby playing the aptly named ‘Immortal Man’ in new Netflix movie Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.
By the end of the season six, the board had been completely reset — loyalties broken, empires disintegrating, and last we saw Tommy Shelby was riding off into an uncertain future.
As it's been four years since the show was last on our screens, you'd be forgiven if you can't recall what has happened to the main players from the series.
So where exactly did we leave all the characters at the end of season 6? Here's what you need to know.
What happened for each of the characters at the end of Peaky Blinders series 6?
Tommy Shelby
Will he feature in Immortal Man? Yes, of course!
For most of the finale, Tommy (Cillian Murphy) believes his fate is sealed. Convinced he is dying from tuberculoma, he begins carefully orchestrating his own ending: blowing up his mansion, stepping away from the business, and handing over control to his sister, Ada Thorne. In a rare moment of vulnerability, he gathers his family for one last goodbye before retreating to a caravan for his final moments.
But in true Peaky fashion, there’s one final twist. A vision of his daughter Ruby leads him to uncover the truth — his diagnosis was a lie, engineered by Oswald Mosley with the help of Dr. Holford (who he sets off to kill).
When Tommy returns to find his caravan ablaze, he doesn’t try to save it. Instead, he rides away, alive and unburdened, leaving his old life behind.
But it is far from the end for Tommy Shelby.
Ada Thorne
Will she feature in Immortal Man? Yes.
Taking the reins in Tommy’s absence, Ada Thorne (Sophie Rundle) steps fully into her power. Once the most politically minded of the siblings, she becomes the natural successor to Tommy’s business and influence, balancing the family’s criminal legacy with a sharper awareness of the shifting political landscape. By the finale, Ada is arguably the most composed Shelby left.
Lizzie Shelby
Will she feature in Immortal Man? No, she has left for good.
By the end of the series, Lizzie Shelby (Natasha O'Keefe) has finally reached breaking point. Still grieving Ruby and unable to forgive Tommy’s adultery, she leaves him for good, taking their son Charlie with her. It’s one of the few genuine escapes in the series — though she departs believing Tommy is about to die, unaware of his last-minute reprieve.
Arthur Shelby
Will he feature in Immortal Man? No, season six was the end for Arthur.
Elsewhere, Arthur Shelby (who spent much of the season battling addiction and grief), claws his way back from the brink in a violent showdown with the IRA. In a brutal shootout at the Garrison, he takes revenge for Polly Gray’s death, killing Captain Swing and emerging — for once — victorious.
He ends the series alive, still deeply traumatised but loyal to Tommy – though he notably misses his final farewell, unaware his brother will ultimately survive.
Michael Gray
Will he feature in Immortal Man? No, thanks to Tommy Shelby.
The intelligent yet increasingly ruthless son of Polly, Michael Gray becomes consumed by vengeance, blaming Tommy for his mother’s death. After orchestrating a failed bomb plot in Canada in an attempt to kill him, he comes face-to-face with the equally bloodthirsty Tommy one last time. Their confrontation ends swiftly and brutally: Tommy shoots Michael dead, bringing their long-brewing family war to a decisive — and fatal — end.
Duke Shelby
Will he feature in Immortal Man? Yes!
Duke Shelby, newly revealed as Tommy’s long-lost illegitimate son, proves himself ruthless enough to wear the Shelby name. He executes informant Billy Grade without hesitation and plays a key role in exposing Finn Shelby’s betrayal. He'll feature in the Peaky Blinders film, but this time played by Barry Keoghan.
Finn Shelby
Will he feature in Immortal Man? No, since the family cast him out.
Finn Shelby (Harry Kirton), who unknowingly enabled the chain of events that led to Polly’s death, is banished from the family entirely — a quiet fall from grace that ends with him vowing revenge.
Alfie Solomons
Will he feature in Immortal Man? No, his gang is not a part of the WW2 storyline.
Meanwhile, ever the survivor, Alfie Solomons (Tom Hardy) ends up in perhaps the strongest position of all.
With Tommy eliminating his rivals, Alfie quietly establishes himself in Boston as a dominant bootlegger, closing out his long and chaotic partnership with the Peaky Blinders on his own terms.
What will happen in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man?
By the time the dust settles, the Peaky Blinders as an empire are effectively gone, dismantled by Tommy himself. The family is scattered: some dead, some exiled, some finally free. And at the centre of it all, Tommy Shelby, the man who once controlled everything, is left with nothing but his life, and the chance to start again.
As for what comes next, the upcoming film Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is expected to pick up with Tommy returning from his self-imposed exile, against the backdrop of a world at war.
Amidst World War 2, Tommy Shelby will return after his son Duke becomes involved in a Nazi-linked scheme, led by villain John Beckett.
And the story is far from over…
Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is available on Netflix now.
