Tonight sees gripping drama Ellis come to an end as the final episode of season two airs on Channel 5, but will the show return?
Season two of the detective drama began last week, with two brand new episodes, and the next two airing consecutively last night and this evening, bringing us back to DCI Ellis (Sharon D Clarke) and DS Harper (Andrew Gower) as they continue to carry on investigating cases around various villages and towns.
This season has seen them investigate the disappearance of a local boy, a murder that brought up a lot of old grudges and the death of a student who was found crushed underneath scaffolding.
But is this the last we've seen of them? Or will Ellis and Harper return for a third season? Here's what you need to know.
Will Ellis return for a third season on Channel 5?
Right now there's been no official word from Channel 5 on whether the show will continue. However, the good news is Andrew Gower, who plays DS Harper, is very keen to return to his role and the show.
When speaking to Radio Times about whether he would want to carry on filming he said: "Oh yeah, that’s a very easy ‘yes’. To work with Sharon and to keep giving life to Harper and Ellis."
Well that sounds promising!
Who would return for another season of Ellis?
If Ellis does return, we'd hope to see Sharon D Clarke and Andrew Gower reprise their roles as DCI Ellis and DS Harper.
We would also hope Charlotte McCurry would return as DC Kate Trent and Allison Harding as ACC Alison Leighton.
As for the rest of the cast, as the cases and locations change in most episodes, we'd expect to see new guest cast members for each new episode.
When could we expect to see a new season of Ellis?
Get ready to potentially wait a while for another season. The gap between season one and two was around a year and a half, with season one airing in November 2024 and the second in March 2026. So if we go with a similar timeline for a third season we could likely see it in late 2027.
Ellis is available on Channel 5 now
