Tonight will see the first episode of new drama mini-series The Lady air on ITV1 at 9pm, telling a dramatisation of the real life of Jane Andrews, former royal dresser for Sarah Ferguson, who was arrested and sentenced for the death of her then lover Thomas Cressman. But who actually was Thomas Cressman?
The new series is expected to go into detail of a fictionalised version of Sarah and Jane's relationship, played by Natalie Dormer and Mia McKenna-Bruce respectively, as well as Jane's early career beginnings to working at Buckingham Palace.
It'll also cover Jane's romantic relationships, culminating in the death of her boyfriend Cressman, played by Ed Speleers. While much is already out there about Jane herself, what do we know about the man she was convicted of murdering?
Here's everything we know about Thomas Cressman.
Who was Thomas Cressman?
Thomas Cressman was the son of former Aston Villa chairman Harry Cressman. Thomas was the youngest of three siblings and born in 1960. He later went onto become a stockbroker.
By the time he began dating Jane Andrews in 1998, he had left the world of finance and had a business selling car accessories and mixed in the "upper echelons" of society.
The couple dated for a few years, after being introduced by a mutual friend and soon into their relationship Jane moved into Cressman's flat in Fulham.
During the trial it emerged the pair's relationship was "volatile". Andrews had gone onto make claims of Cressman's "extreme sexual tastes" and alleged "violence".
In September 2000 the couple went on a trip to Italy and then to Thomas' family villa in the French Riveria, which is where Jane believed the couple would get engaged, and later go onto get married and have children. However, during this trip Cressman told Jane that he had no intention of marrying her.
When the pair returned home to London, they had an argument and on 17 September 2000, Cressman called the police asking for them to split the pair up.
"We are rowing, someone is going to get hurt unless… I would like police to come and split us up. I would like someone here to stop us hurting each other," he said on the phone.
The police did not attend the property and later that evening, while Thomas was sleeping he was beaten with a cricket bat and stabbed him in the chest. Andrews was later found guilty for his murder and sentenced to life in prison.
In 2001 she was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, and in 2009 escaped from prison. She was caught three days later and placed back in jail.
In June 2015 she was released from prison on licence.
