The Traitors is back and suddenly life feels exciting again! Tonight (1st January), 22 contestants from the season four cast will step into the dramatic Scottish castle for the ultimate game of trust, betrayal and deception.

One of those players is Rachel - a 42-year-old head of communications from County Down - who’s ready to take on the challenge.

For 15 years, Rachel has honed her skills playing Mafia, a game strikingly similar to The Traitors, and she’s bringing that competitive edge straight to the castle.

Yes, she’s married, and together they have three children. She often shares adorable family moments on Instagram, and ahead of the show, she joked that her poker face is so good her husband can’t tell when she’s telling the truth - lol.

"My husband can't even tell if I'm telling the truth anymore, not that I lie to him all that often, but I could wind him up and say something off the cuff, and he's like, I don't even know if that's true!" she said.

How did Rachel prepare for The Traitors?

Rachel plans to lean on her long-standing love of games with family and friends, alongside the communication skills she uses every day in her professional life.

Asked about her strategy, she said: "I’m going to say that I work in Marketing, which is true, but it's leaving out the fact that I do strategic communications across Northern Ireland on a daily basis. I don't want them to know that speaking to people and getting my point across is very easy for me. I suppose the overriding game plan is to just have fun and be super fun and super positive and be lovely to be around, which is going to hopefully get me a little bit further in the game."

Is Rachel from The Traitors competitive?

Very. Asked why she appleid for the show, Rachel said: "I love the game. I've played the game Mafia for about 15 years, and I am a competitive person, through and through. My friends and family call me Monica from Friends. I just love games. I love challenges, so I thought I'm going to give that a go."

And she'll do "anything to win", adding: "Nothing's off the table. I'm very good at knowing the difference between reality and a game. I'm really competitive in challenges, so I'll do whatever I can to get money in the bank. I'm a really sociable person that loves finding out things, so I really enjoy genuinely building nice connections and finding out about people. That also makes me a great detective, because I can piece together if people are potentially covering over the truth with lies."

What will The Traitors' Rachel spend the prize money on if he wins?

We’ll have to keep watching to see if Rachel can make it all the way on The Traitors, but she already has a plan for how she’d spend her winnings if luck is on her side.

"I would make memories with the most important people in my life. My mum hasdementia, and she wants to go on a holiday as she used to go on holidays all the timebefore my dad passed. That's all she wants. I just want to create memories with her whilstI'm still lucky enough to have her, and to create memories with my kids, because they justlove their nanny," she said.
