Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly have quit Strictly Come Dancing after 21 years hosting the show.

On Thursday 23rd October, the duo released a lengthy statement on their Instagram accounts announcing that they'd be stepping back from the BBC One dancing competition and "pass over the baton" to someone new.

Alongside a video, they wrote: "We have loved working as a duo and hosting Strictly has been an absolute dream. We were always going to leave together and now feels like the right time.

"We will have the greatest rest of this amazing series and we just want to say an enormous thank you to the BBC and to every single person who works on the show. They’re the most brilliant team and we’ll miss them every day.

"We will cry when we say the last 'keep dancing' but we will continue to say it to each other. Just possibly in tracksuit bottoms at home while holding some pizza. Tess & Claud."

Tess, 56, followed with a lengthy Instagram post, within which she thanked the Strictly team and fans for the "unforgettable" memories and honoured the late Sir Bruce Forsyth who she originally hosted the show with.

"Strictly has been more than just a television programme. It fell like having a third child, a second family, a huge part of my life since that very first show back in 2004. I knew then it was something special, but I could never have imagined the magic it would bring," she said.

Alongside a carousel of photos from her time on the show, Claudia, 53, added: "It’s very difficult to put into words exactly what Strictly has meant to me. It’s been the greatest relationship of my career. From working on It Takes Two in 2004 until now it has been my everything, the show I will be eternally grateful for. I will never forget Len Goodman trying to teach me what a cucaracha is (I still don’t know) and the complete thrill and honour it was to work with Tess on the results show to cohosting on Saturday nights."

Following the news, fans rushed to the comments, with one writing: "Strictly will never be the same. Thanks for making so many of our wintery Saturday nights a lot brighter for so long xxx"

Another added alongside a series of love-heart emojis and a crying face: "Genuinely heartbroken. Best show on telly. Best presenter, best presenting team. It will not be the same without you. Hate to see you go, but glad you're going together at it wouldn't be right for one to be the without the other. What joy you have brought people. So much love."

Tess and Claudia' s celebrity friends were also quick to respond to he news, with Rylan Clark writing under Claudia's post: "Shoes as big as the fringe to fill. Love you."

Strictly judge Motsi Mabuse added: "Going to miss you so much! You're an icon and inspiration. Still in shock, but wishing you love and best wishes."
