Ross and Rachel. Chuck and Blair. Lorelai and Luke. There’s no denying we love a complicated, long-winded love story around here. Maybe it’s the rush of not knowing how things will end. Or maybe it’s the fact we kinda relate to less-than-perfect situations (and people). Whatever it is, we’re always the ones rooting for them to JUST. FINALLY. DO IT.

It’s why we spent four years following The Summer I Turned Pretty; why we keep returning to classics like When Harry Met Sally; and why we’re now absolutely obsessed with Our Fault on Prime Video.

The concluding movie in a trilogy adapted from the bestselling Culpable book series, it’s packed with all the usual tropes that keep us delighted and despairing in equal measure. Take a walk with us as we explore why this movie and the timeless romantic clichés it features have got us in a serious chokehold.

They’re always very real

Sometimes you like a person and they like you, but, for reasons known only by the universe, things don’t go to plan. Outside inputs, family disputes or just your own insecurities can make building a relationship tough. Will-they-won’t-they love stories speak to the truth that it’s actually rare for things to go smoothly, and there’s a lot of comfort in knowing that difficult situations can happen to anyone (even beautiful, fictional characters). If you’re anything like Our Fault’s Nick and Noah, you may know how painful it can be when things don’t work out despite there being a lot of love – and you may be curious about what could be. But believe us when we say, it’s usually better to live this fantasy vicariously rather than opening closed chapters IRL.

They keep you guessing

There are some days when we like to get into a story and almost immediately have a sense of where things are going. Not only because it means we can have a cheeky TikTok scroll and not be completely lost, but also because predictability is comfortable and safe. There are other times, though, when we want to be kept on the edge of our seats.

A good will-they-won’t-they does this well, Our Fault being a prime example. Even though you’re hoping the couple will get back together and believe it’s what would be right, you can never be 100% sure, and the uncertainty is gripping.

They show the importance of time

Okay, we’ll be real. Do we always love the fact some of our favourite will-they-won't-they stories take several years to come to pass? No. Can we appreciate the character growth and development that happens over the course of the journey? Sure.

The beauty of these kinds of love stories is that they show the necessity of time for growth, healing and serious self-reflection. Prime Video’s Our Fault picks up four years after Nick and Noah’s break-up, so you can imagine a lot has changed. There’s been time to forgive (or not) and learn from their last encounter. Does this mean Nick may have gotten over his trust issues? Could Noah have found better ways to cope with disappointment? Only time will tell (and they’ve had plenty).

Once a hardcore shipper, always a hardcore shipper. Follow Nick and Noah’s story now and find out if they finally will by watching Our Fault on Prime Video now.
