If you've been watching season five of BBC's Race Across The World and think you could easily do better than this season's contestants as they travel across Asia with a minimal budget and no phone, then you're in luck, as the applications for season six are now open, and we've got the number one tip to get you through it.
The applications are open until 6 July 2025, and in order to take part you need to fill out an application form for yourself and your team member. So how do you make yourself stand out from the crowd all wanting to compete?
Monique Ajayi, who starred in season three of the show alongside her dad Ladi, spoke to Cosmopolitan UK last year where she revealed her number one tip she shares with people who ask her how to get on the show.
"I've had so many people DMing me asking for tips [for applying], but honestly it's just being yourself," she explained. "You've got to go into it with no expectations. As soon as you try to be something you're not and live up to what you think they're looking for. You're not being yourself, and it's not authentic."
If you get through the first stage of the application process, Monique then explained during her year, the applicants were then invited to take part in a trial day, where they did a mini version of the show around London.
"We had to get to the pergola in Battersea Park," Monique explained. "They took our phones and money, and dad figured out the way."
Alfie Watts, who appeared on last year's series, has also shared his tips for getting on the show. Speaking in a reel on his Instagram in March earlier this year, Alfie agreed with Monique, saying the number one thing is to "be authentic" and "be yourself". He added himself and team mate Owen hadn't even watched the show before applying and so they didn't go in with any pre-conceived notions of what they should be like.
He also added that it's essential to pick the right person to apply with as the race will be a lot harder if you don't get on.
His final word of advice was the video for your application is the most important part, as "you cannot show your personality over the text questions that they ask you. That video is your 60 second opportunity to showcase your friendship, showcase your family, relationship, showcase the bond between you as people and also that you are going to be an appropriate fit for the TV show."
Applications for the show are open until 6 July 2025, you must be over 18 to apply, and a legal resident of the UK, as well as having a valid passport and being able to be free for filming for up to 8 weeks from September to November late this year.
Good luck with applying!
