Calling all fashion fans, the first Monday in May is upon us: meaning that the Met Gala is here!
This year's theme is Superfine: Tailoring Black Style and is an homage to Black dandyism, inspired by the influential professor (and Met Costume Institute guest curator) Monica L Miller's 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.
Focussing on menswear and Afrodiasporic culture, the gala's theme of 'dandyism' is a celebration of elegant, chic style and explorations of identity through fashion. The subculture was prominent during the Harlem Renaissance and was exemplified by figures like Langston Hughes and James Baldwin.
Accompanying the stunning theme is an all-star cohort of co-chairs: Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, Lewis Hamilton and Pharrell Williams.
Met Gala 2025: Celebrities who missed this year's gala
Anyway, we already know the guest list is going to be stacked, with the likes of Tyla, Ayo Edebiri, and the above co-chairs all in attendance. But what about the A-listers who won't be dropping by at this year's gala?
Here's a full list...
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds
Blake Lively has strong ties to the Met Gala, first attending all the way back in 2008. She last attended in 2022, when she wore a humongous, 2-in-1 Versace number to co-chair the Americana themed event.
It seems that this year she and her husband Ryan Reynolds aren't looking to hit up the steps of the Met. Sources speaking to US Weekly explain that, "She’s not a Kardashian that goes every year, while a source speaking to TMZ says that they made the decision to skip the event before Blake's publicised legal battle with Justin Baldoni.
Rachel Zegler
Rachel Zegler has become a major force in the entertainment industry since starring in 2021's West Side Story and this year's Snow White. According to Page Six, however, she reportedly won't be at the gala as she has a scheduling conflict and is London for rehearsals for her musical Evita.
Gisele Bündchen
Supermodel Gisele Bündchen seems to be skipping this year's Met Gala after giving birth in February.
TMZ claims that "Gisele is not going to one of the biggest nights in fashion this year, and she never planned to go either" - meaning fans won't get the red carpet debut they're hoping for with her new partner Joaquim Valente.
