As A Real Pain makes its streaming debut, here's everything you need to know.
What is A Real Pain about?
A Real Pain is about two cousins trying to reconnect with each other on a trip to Poland, following the death of their beloved, Holocaust-survivor grandmother.
The film stars Eisenberg and Culkin with supporting cast including Will Sharpe, Jennifer Grey, Kurt Egyiawan, Liza Sadovy, and Daniel Oreskes.
How to watch A Real Pain
A Real Pain will make its streaming debut on Disney+ on Wednesday 2nd April.
The film is Eisenberg's second feature film as a writer-director and second collaboration with Fruit Tree, following When You Finish Saving the World.
It is also Culkin's first major project after the conclusion of Succession, in which he plays Roman Roy.
Eisenberg, who is of Polish lineage, says that the film originally started out as buddy trip to Mongolia. However, he became stuck when writing the script when an idea literally popped up on his computer screen.
Speaking to CBS News, he said: "I was, like, 30 pages into the script and something was missing. I knew the script was not going well. And so, I'm, like, kind of, like, banging my head against the keyboard. And an ad pops up online for 'Auschwitz tours.' And then in parentheses, 'with lunch.'
"And I was like, 'Auschwitz tours (with lunch)?' That's, like, the strangest pairing of four words I've ever seen. And once I saw that, and once I read that brochure, I was like, 'Oh, that's the movie. That is so interesting,' because I was trying to deal with these two characters who are both kind of, like, in pain in their own ways."
Watch A Real Pain arrives on Disney+ on Wednesday 2nd April.
