If like the rest of the world you were utterly obsessed and moved by Netflix's Adolescence, and wondering when you next see more of Owen Cooper's phenomenal acting then you're in luck. The 15-year-old actor, who had his first on-screen role as Jamie in the Netflix drama, will next be on our screens in Emerald Fennell's adaptation of Wuthering Heights.
The movie adaptation of Emily Brontë's acclaimed novel is led by Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, and has already begun filming, ahead of its release early next year. Curious to know more about the film? Here's what you can expect.
When was the Wuthering Heights movie confirmed?
In July 2024 it was confirmed Emerald Fennel would write and direct an adaptation of Wuthering Heights.
And in October 2024 it was announced Warner Bros would be distributing the film with a theatrical release, aka you'll have to see it in cinemas long before it hits streaming sites.
What is the Wuthering Heights movie about?
If you weren't paying attention in English lessons, then here's the essential run down of what happens in Wuthering Heights.
The Emily Brontë novel was published in 1847 and follows the life of Heathcliff. At a young age he's fostered into a wealthy family in the Yorkshire moors, and he falls in love with his adoptive sister Catherine aka Cathy.
However, due to Heathcliff's lack of wealth and status, Cathy marries someone else. Heathcliff leaves, only to return later on with riches of his own and intends to exact his revenge against the man Cathy has married.
Who is in the cast of Wuthering Heights?
Heading up the adaptation will be Margot Robbie in the lead role as Cathy. Robbie is also signed on as a producer of the film too. The role of Heathcliff will be played by Jacob Elordi, who Emerald Fennell previously worked with on the movie Saltburn.
Owen Cooper will be playing the young version of Heathcliff, while Charlotte Mellington will be playing the young Cathy.
Also joining the cast is Shazad Latif as Edgar Linton the man Cathy ends up marrying. Playing his sister Isabella is Alison Winter, who also starred in Saltburn.
Completing the cast is Hong Chau who will be playing the role of Nelly, the book's narrator and servant to the Earnshaw family. Her younger self will be played by Vy Nguyen.
Has filming begun on Wuthering Heights yet?
It sure has. Filming begun earlier this year and on 21st March 2025, pictures were released of Margot Robbie filming scenes as Cathy, while wearing a white wedding dress.
When will Wuthering Heights be released?
There's still plenty of time to (re)read the novel as the movie adaptation is not due to be released on cinema screens until 13 February 2026.
