No your eyes are not deceiving you, that bald man lurking in the tropical background with the much younger girlfriend is in fact Greg. And he's officially back for The White Lotus season three.
Yep, in a blink and you'll miss it moment towards the end of the first episode of The White Lotus season three it was revealed Jon Gries was back playing Greg Hunt, husband to the late Tanya McQuiod, and now the only cast member to have appeared in all three seasons of The White Lotus season three so far.
We see him after Aimee Lou Wood's character Chelsea heads to the bar after her boyfriend Rick (Walton Goggins) decides to head to bed early. There, while drowning her sorrows she meets and bonds with another guest, played by Charlotte Le Bon, who has also had an argument with her boyfriend. She then points behind her to her boyfriend, a bald white guy, and calls him a "LBH" which she explains is a local term meaning "losers back home" and the loser in question? Well the camera pans to Greg.
And let's just say we may have startled the neighbours after the gasp we let out after seeing that bald man again. Not as shocked as us? Well you can be forgiven for slightly forgetting what his role is in the previous seasons was, so consider this your guide on all things Greg.
Who is The White Lotus' Greg?
We first met Greg in the original season of The White Lotus in 2021. He was introduced as a single man who is working for BLM or the Bureau of Land Management, as it's officially known. He revealed he works across 10 states and has 300 rangers reporting into him.
He's in Hawaii on a fishing trip with some friends, and meets Tanya, played by Jennifer Coolidge, and they quickly strike up a romance. They end up leaving the season and Hawaii as a couple.
What happened with Greg in The White Lotus season 2?
We get to see Greg and Tanya, now married in season two of The White Lotus, when they head to Italy. Throughout the early episodes Greg seems constantly irritated by Tanya and ends up leaving early.
This is then when Tanya becomes friends with a wealthy expat named Quentin, played by Tom Hollander. Quentin takes her under his wing and brings her on board his boat, and has her as his guest to stay at his luxury Italian mansion.
At the house, Tanya discovers a photo of what appears to be a young Greg and Quentin. Earlier in the series Quentin tells Tanya the story of a young cowboy he fell in love with while in the United States, during his youth.
It then appears Greg worked in collusion with Quentin and his henchmen to kill Tanya, although this was never confirmed. Quentin and his cronies lure Tanya onto his yacht, where they intend to tie her up and kill her. Except Tanya manages to protect herself and shoots everyone on the boat with her eyes closed.
We all thought she'd made a lucky escape, but after the deadly shoot out she then slipped off the boat and hit head and fell into the ocean, dying instantly.
So why is Greg back again?
Well right now we don't know too much about Greg's re-appearance. At the end of season two viewers were pretty much in agreement Greg and Quentin had worked together to kill Tanya so Greg could inherit her millions.
When we see him in the new season, his new girlfriend explains they've lived in Thailand for a year and in a house at the top of the hill, which, given the luxurious location and therefore property prices, suggests Greg has quite a bit of money in his back pocket.
It's not clear how their storyline will develop, but one thing we can't wait to see is what will happen when Natasha Rothwell's character Belinda notices Greg is there. In case you forgot Belinda was the spa manager in season one and spent a lot of her time with Tanya and saw her relationship with Greg develop.
Will Belinda be able to put everything together and work out what really happened to Tanya?
