Back in February, the BBC dropped what has easily been our favourite comedy show of the year so far, Amandaland. The six-part comedy series is a spin-off of the iconic BBC series Motherland, and sees Amanda up sticks and move away from her beloved Chiswick to SoHa, aka South Harlseden.
Starring Lucy Punch, Joanna Lumley and Philippa Dunne it has all the elements of Motherland we've come to know and love, but of course with an Amanda-like spin on every thing. And it's safe to say after binging all six episodes we're already keen for more, so will there be a second series of Amandaland? Here's what we know so far.
Has Amandaland been confirmed for season 2?
We're so happy to say it's a big YES. On 6 March, the BBC confirmed another season of Amandaland will happen.
It's one of the channel's biggest comedy's launches, averaging 6.4million viewers so far and so of course they're bringing it back.
And the BBC's head of comedy, Tanya Qureshi, said of the show's future: "We always had high hopes for Amandaland, but it’s been amazing to see how much viewers have embraced not just the returning characters, but the brilliant new additions too. We’re so thrilled to reunite with this talented team for another instalment of Amanda’s new life in SoHa.”
Bring on season 2!
Who will return for Amandaland season 2?
While nothing has been officially confirmed in terms of casting, the show can't exist without Lucy Punch, so we'd of course expect her to return as Amanda. As for the rest of the cast? We really hope we'd see the following cast return to reprise their roles:
- Joanna Lumley as Felicity
- Philippa Dunne as Anne
- Samuel Anderson as Mal
- Siobhan McSweeney as Della
- Rochenda Sandall as Fi
- Ekow Quartey as JJ
- Peter Serafinowicz as Johannes
We'd also be keeping our fingers crossed for a surprise appearance from Julia Maxwell Martin as Julia, Diane Morgan as Liz or Paul ready as Kevin. Or you know all three of them. We're not fussy.
When will we season 2 of Amandaland?
Though it took a long time to hear news of the first series of Amandaland, when the series was announced in May 2024, filming then began in September and it dropped on our screens in early February this year.
If series two were to follow a similar timeline of around 10 months from commission to being on screen, we could likely expect to see season two of Amandaland on our screens in early January.
Amandaland is available on BBC iPlayer now
