While we still have a long time to wait until the release of the 28 Years Later movie — until next June, to be exact — that hasn't stopped fans taking to social media to comment on the trailer, which dropped earlier this week.

ICYMI, the first trailer for the film *just* came out, with the official caption explaining: "It's been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected."

Many stars are expected to appear in the movie, which is a sequel to the popular 28 Days Later movie (released back in 2002) and 28 Weeks Later (2007). Jack O'Connell, Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes and Aaron Taylor-Johnson are just some of the big names set to appear and many fans hoped Cillian Murphy would be back to reprise his role of Jim.

While Cillian's name is missing from promotional posters for the latest film, he is credited as an executive producer on the Sony Pictures website and, after watching the trailer, fans are more convinced than ever that he'll return to the franchise on screen — albeit unrecognisably.

"Fans think Cillian Murphy is an infected in #28YearsLater," a post on X (formerly Twitter) reads, as another says: "No way this is Cillian Murphy in 28 Years Later."

"ARE YOU TELLING ME THIS IS CILLIAN MURPHY!!" someone else asked (or shouted, rather), as another said: "[It's been] a rough 28 years for Cillian Murphy."

Previously commenting on speculation over Oscar-winner Cillian's involvement with 28 Years Later, Sony Motion Pictures chairman Tim Rothman told Deadline earlier this year that he does reprise his role "but in a surprising way."

We guess we'll have to watch and find out...
