Spooky season is officially under way, and one horror filled show we're currently sinking our teeth into is Sky's Sweetpea. Starring Ella Purnell, the six-part series is based on the novel of the same name by CJ Skuse and follows the story of Rhiannon (Purnell) who, after a lifetime of being ignored, and the death of her father, takes out her rage against the world the only way she knows how - murder. Over the course of the series she kills multiple men and kidnaps one woman, but does she ever get found out? Here's the ending of Sweetpea explained.

Does Rhiannon ever get discovered for the murders?

Across six episodes of Sweetpea Rhiannon kills three men - Ryan, Mike and Julia's fiancé Marcus. After Rhiannon pushed Marcus off the ledge at the end of episode five, the police take Rhiannon and Julia into custody.

The pair sell their story that Marcus kidnapped Julia and was going to hurt her when Rhiannon arrived saving the day, and Marcus slipped and fell from the upper floor.

The police somehow bought their story, thanks to Marcus' DNA being on the knife and his threatening text messages to Rhiannon. However, Marina, the more junior detective has a correct hunch that Rhiannon is responsible for the murders and goes in on her during the questioning, earning her some harsh words from her boss.

Rhiannon and Julia are free to go, but it's not over for Rhiannon. While Rhiannon is on a night out, Marina breaks into her home and discovers the security CCTV footage from Rhiannon's dad business. In the footage she sees Rhiannon slash Julia's tires shortly before she goes missing.

Marina stays at Rhiannon's house waiting to confront her and when Rhiannon arrives the next morning, the pair confront each other, but as Rhiannon points out Marina can't use the CCTV footage as she broke into her home to get it. Marina knows this but says she's patient as she knows Rhiannon will kill again. And tbf she's not wrong.

Where did Julia go?

After she manages to get out of the police station as a free woman, Julia heads to Rhiannon's house as she doesn't know where else to go.

The pair go on a night out and it's here when things start to change between the pair. Julia asks for Rhiannon's bank card, which she stupidly hands over and then Rhiannon later asks Julia to move in with her which she's obviously hesitant about.

After their night out they go to Rhiannon's newspaper office, where Julia starts to recount her experience of being kidnapped and it further cements to her she wants nothing to do with Rhiannon.

Julia is meant to show up for dinner later that evening, but of course she doesn't turn up and the next morning Rhiannon receives a bank account notification for a transaction for British Airways.

While Rhiannon is perhaps a bit naive to what has gone on, as a viewer it's pretty clear to see Julia didn't want to be under the thumb of someone else and used her kidnapper's money to get the hell out of their small town.

Who was AJ's police source?

After dumping Craig, and heading home to make dinner for herself and Julia, Rhiannon is surprised when AJ turns up at her front door instead.

They end up spending the night together and the next morning AJ reveals he now has a source on the police force who is feeding him tips about the case. He states the source is a "he" and then proceeds to show Rhiannon a picture of her dad's knife.

Right now it's not clear who sent AJ the picture. Could it be Marina pretending to be someone else? Or is it just a coincidence that someone on the police force sent him the knife picture? If the show were to have a season two we'd hope to get this cleared up.

How does Sweetpea on Sky end?

Once AJ shows Rhiannon the picture of the knife she says, "an impressive bit of kit", which echoes AJ's words when he first meets Rhiannon at the office and calls her knife that she uses to open the post "an impressive bit of kit".

The words trigger them both and they both come to the realisation of what is going on, with AJ understanding he's just had sex with a serial killer.

Rhiannon scrambles to keep AJ calm and throw him off the scent but he's right and goes to search for her dad's knife, which he obviously can't find as it's sitting in a police station.

He goes onto call Rhiannon a "monster" and tries to leave, but Rhiannon ends up stabbing him with the cooking knife that's on the side, saying he can't leave her. She stabs him multiple times and then hugs his dying body on the kitchen floor.

It's at this point that her older sister Seren arrives and the show ends with Rhiannon looking terrifyingly at the door.
