All Formula 1 fans know the name Ayrton Senna, and now the rest of the world will too, as Netflix is bringing a mini-series, Senna, about the iconic racing driver to the small screen later this year, and it's first trailer has just been released.

The series has been in development since 2020 and now four years on we can expect to see the mini-series air later this year, with Gabriel Leone take on the leading role of Senna. The series is expected to cover the life of the legendary Brazilian driver, including his sporting triumphs up until his fatal accident at the San Marino Grand Prix 30 years ago.

What's the release date of Senna?

Senna has been in development since 2020, with the cast being confirmed last year and filming starting at the end of last year.

And now we finally know the series will be arriving on Netflix on 29th November later this year.

Netflix confirmed the exciting news earlier today (18th July) and also shared a new image of Gabriel Leone as the famous driver.

What is Senna about?

The new six-part mini series, made in association with Senna's family, is about the life of Brazilian racing driver Ayrton Senna. The series will include his biggest driving achievements, his move to England, his personal struggles and relationships, and the tragic accident that saw him pass away at the San Marino Grand Prix three decades ago.

Senna was a three time F1 world champion and held 41 victories, 65 pole positions, and 80 podiums between 1984 and 1994. Over his career he raced for Lotus, McLaren and Williams.

Who is in the cast for Senna?

Taking on the lead role of Senna is Brazilian actor Gabriel Leone, who is perhaps best known for his role in another motorsports project, as Alfonso de Portago in the 2023 film Ferrari.

Also in the cast is Pâmela Tomé as Xuxa, Senna's TV star girlfriend, Matt Mella as rival driver Alain Prost, Patrick Kennedy as McLaren team principal Ron Dennis and Gabriel Louchard as Brazilian sports announcer Galvão Bueno.

We can also expect to see Kaya Scodelario as Laura, a journalist, Alice Wegmann as Senna's first wife Lilian Vasconcelos and Camila Márdila as Senna's sister Vivianne Senna.

Is there a trailer for Senna?

There sure is. The first trailer was released on 30 April (the day before the 30th anniversary of Senna's death) and shows shots of Senna driving, kissing a woman and getting into a fight.
