Imagine getting off a 10-hour flight only to be arrested for a crime you didn't commit and immediately flown back, which was the premise of the first series of ITV's binge-worthy crime drama, Red Eye. But, will there be a season 2?
The series follows Dr Matthew Nolan (played by Richard Armitage,) who is extradited from the UK to Beijing, China, to answer for the death of a woman found in the wreckage of his car, and soon becomes involved in a dangerous conspiracy.
If you were hooked on the first series, which came out in April 2024, you might be wondering if a renewal is likely to happen. So from the cast to news and more, here is everything you need to know about Red Eye season 2.
Will there be a Red Eye season 2?
Yes! On 11th September 2024, ITV’s head of drama Polly Hill confirmed the series had been renewed. In a statement, she said: "It’s incredible to get an audience of over 8 million and a huge thank you to everyone involved for making such a brilliant and addictive thriller. I can’t wait for audiences to see where [the show's writer] Pete [A Dowling] takes series 2. It’s another exciting ride!"
Red Eye season 2 cast
When the show was renewed, ITV also shared which cast members would be returning for Red Eye season 2 - and sadly it's bad news for anyone hoping to see Richard Armitage back in action. Because sadly Dr Matthew Nolan won't star in future episodes. So far, the cast includes:
- Jing Lusi as Detective Constable Hana Li
- Lesley Sharp as Head of MI5 Madeline Delaney
- Jemma Moore as journalist Jess Li
Speaking to Digital Spy, Richard previously expressed his interest in continuing the role, explaining, "We would all love to do more because I think you've only just started scratching the surface. I feel like I immediately finished and thought, 'I wonder what Nolan was really up to [in] Beijing.'"
"There is more to him than meets the eye, and because we've held back and we haven't told his whole story. That to me is fascinating," he continued."And like I said before, it starts as a man accused of a crime being renditioned back to Beijing, and by the end, it turns into an international crisis."

What might the plot of Red Eye season 2 be?
The final episode saw Hana and Delaney risk their lives to bring those responsible to justice, with Matthew ending up in the hospital after being shot.
We see Matthew almost ask Hana on a date, and her family finding out what happened to their mother. It's likely this family dynamic will be explored more in season two, considering Hana and Jess will both be back. We'll have to wait and see!
