Hugh Grant has been making headlines after admitting he hated playing the Oompa Loompa in the new Wonka movie opposite Timothée Chalamet. Isn't this the kind of thing actors keep to themselves and admit 10 years later?
Ahead of the Willy Wonka prequel hitting UK cinemas this weekend, Hugh, 63, confessed to Metro that he actually 'slightly hates' being an actor, but does it in order to keep his children happy. Fair enough.
The actor has five children aged between 13 and five, two of which he shares with ex-partner Tinglan Hong, and three with wife Anna Eberstein, who he married in 2018.
"I slightly hate [making films] but I have lots of children and need money," he told the publication. The process for Wonka involved Hugh becoming pint-sized to play the orange Oompa Loompa, and CGI was used for the process.
"It was like a crown of thorns, very uncomfortable," he said of the special effects process. "I made a big fuss about it. I couldn't have hated the whole thing more... and frankly, what I did with my body was terrible, and it’s all been replaced with an animator."
We have a feeling Hugh's being a little facetious here, and actually his comments are meant to be tongue in cheek. Speaking at the premiere of Wonka last week, he admitted that while he hadn't actually seen the film yet, he was a big fan of it, and working with the people who made it.
"I live here so it’s not that exciting to be in London but I love this film, I love the people who made this film," he said (via Daily Mail). "I made Paddington 2 with them. There’s no one I hate, which is very rare, cast, crew, producers, maybe a couple of executives I don’t like much. But otherwise they are a lovely bunch."
Wonka will be in UK cinemas from 8th December
