The live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda's beloved anime, One Piece, has landed on Netflix and fans are already looking ahead to more episodes. So, will there be a One Piece season two?
The series follows the Straw Hat Pirates and their captain Luffy (played by Iñaki Godoy), who travel far and wide across the ocean in search of the ultimate treasure, which will lead him to being the King of Pirates.
While the season ends on a hopeful note for the crew, they haven't yet discovered the "one piece" they need, which leaves the door open for more episodes. So, without further ado, here's everything we know about One Piece season two.
Has One Piece season 2 been confirmed?
Good news One Piece fans, as season two is officially on its way!
Netflix confirmed the renewal on 14th September, with an announcement from manga creator Eiichiro Oda himself. "Netflix has decided to renew the show," he said.
"The adventures of Iñaki and the live-action Straw Pirates will continue onward! It'll still take a while to get the scripts ready so please be patient." Can't. Wait!
What might happen in One Piece season 2?
The (sort of) post-credit scene of One Piece season one gives fans a potential insight into what could happen in season two. Before the credits start to roll, the show cuts to a dark and mysterious scene which sees a hazy smoke arise, who fans of the anime will know as Smoker.
He has a special skill of being able to transform into pure smoke, and it's suggested the Straw Hats are could be attempting to fight against him. Could that be a season two plot point?
Another thing to consider is the fact there are over 1,000 episodes of the anime series One Piece is adapted from, which means there's LOADS of content for Netflix to take inspiration from. Season one of the original show has a massive 61 episodes, so the surface has barely been scratched.
Who might star in One Piece season 2?
We'd expect to see all of our favourite cast members return for One Piece season two, including:
- Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy
- Mackenyu Arata as Roronoa Zoro
- Emily Rudd as Nami
- Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp
- Taz Skylar as Sanji
- Langley Kirkwood as Captain Morgan
- Aidan Scott as Helmeppo
- Jeff Ward as Buggy
- Peter Gadiot as Shanks
- Steven John Ward as Dracule Mihawk
- Craig Fairbrass as Chef Zeff
- McKinley Belcher III as Arlong
One Piece season 2 release date speculation
Eiichiro Oda asked fans to be patient in the announcement of season two, so it's hard to know for sure when One Piece will return. But, based on season one's timeline, we might possibly have an idea.
Filming began in January 2022 and finished in August 2022, while it was released a whole year later in August 2023. Following this pattern, fans can hope if season two was confirmed in the next few weeks, production might begin in January 2024, and drop by summer 2025. Until then, guess we're watching One Piece season one on repeat!
