It's time to write that break up text because Selena Gomez just dropped her brand new song, 'Single Soon', and now she's responding to the rumours that the track is about The Weeknd.
Released on 25 August, the single is about Selena living her best life after a break up, with listeners speculating it's about her ex — real name, Abel Tesfaye — who she dated in 2017 (before getting back with Justin Bieber, RIP Jelena!)
But, Selena quickly shut down those rumours in a comment posted on Instagram.
"Couldn't be more false," she wrote on 28 August, in response to a post from Hollywood Life about the speculation.
Just two days earlier, the singer took to Instagram to share the real meaning behind her new song. "It's a playful anthem about being comfortable in your own skin and loving your own company," she wrote.
"It's also really fun to dance to," she added. You've got that right, Selena!
Selena and The Weeknd broke up around six years ago after dating for around ten months, following her split from Justin Bieber and he and after Bella Hadid called things off. After their split, Gomez rekindled her romance with Justin before he tied the knot with Hailey Bieber.
Since then, Selena hasn't dated anyone publicly, but was recently rumoured to be seeing Zayn Malik, though she unfollowed him on Instagram soon after speculation began.
On her new music, Selena wrote on Instagram: “Since I’m not quite done with SG3, I wanted to put out a fun little song I wrote a while back that’s perfect for the end of summer.”
New album coming soon then, fingers crossed!
