Last night, the official And Just Like That Instagram account basically broke the internet when they shared new pictures of Carrie and Aidan kissing in the upcoming series two. Whilst everyone else was debating if the pair should get back together (it's a firm no from most), I was annoyed. I don't want to know to the biggest plot point of a series, before there's even a release date announced.
Sex and The City and its subsequent spin-off series, And Just Like That, are two of my favourite shows. I needed a week to recover when the spin-off was announced and I loved seeing Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte back on my screen.
I even weirdly enjoyed the anticipation of having to wait a whole week to see the next episode. But now with the latest series, it feels like the excitement is over before it's even begun because of the amount of spoilers we've been given so far.
John Corbett's return as the iconic Aidan was announced earlier this year, with a picture of Aidan and Carrie holding hands. Could they not have confirmed Aidan was returning and leave it at that?
And now with this latest picture, there's no denying something is going on between Aidan and Carrie romantically, and I would have loved to had the experience of watching that kiss for the first time on screen.
It turns out I'm not the only one feeling this way as many viewers were commenting on the Instagram, to express their frustration at the spoilers.
One person said: "What’s with the spoilers 🙄", another commented: "Stop the spoilers 😢🫣," and another hilariously said: "Girl shut up y’all giving us the whole season."
Now, of course as a series that's shot on the literal streets of New York, it's going to be hard for the show to always keep everything a secret. Paparazzi shots of the pair have been everywhere, so it makes sense for HBO Max to take control of the narrative and post their own version of the picture.
Equally, these pictures could just be scenes deliberately set up to trick fans. Cynthia Nixon (Miranda) and Kristin Davis (Charlotte) previously admitted on occasion they do film scenes to throw fans off the scent of what's actually going on in the show.
When asked if they fake scenes on the The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Kristin replied: "Yes. Yes, definitely."
Cynthia added, "We don’t want them to know — we don’t want them to read the CliffsNotes beforehand."
But it feels like something as major as Carrie and Aidan getting back together, would probably not be a fake scene.
I will of course be watching the new series and these new pictures won't spoil the enjoyment of watching how they get back together, but now knowing that they do get romantically involved has slightly spoiled the new series for me.
