If you're looking to literally laugh out loud at your TV screen, then BBC comedy Motherland is likely right up at the top of your watch (and rewatch) list. But will there be a Motherland season four?
To recap, the witty sitcom follows a group of mothers and a stay-at-home dad as they deal with the daily trials and tribulations of parenthood - and it's guaranteed entertainment whether you have kids or not.
Three seasons have already aired on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer, with the series newly landing on Netflix. And it looks like fans are *thrilled*, as the show has already jumped right up to the No.5 spot in Netflix's TV Top 10.
So, it's only natural that we're after more in the form of a potential Motherland season four. Here's everything we know so far...
Has Motherland season 4 been confirmed?
Unfortunately, there's been no word just yet on whether a Motherland season 4 is happening. However, with three hugely popular seasons under the show's belt, we'd hope to see this one back for more! Plus, looking at Netflix's Top 10 list, it seems like this one is a firm fan favourite, hopefully prompting the BBC/Netflix to send more our way.
Who might star in Motherland season 4?
If season four goes ahead, we'd hope to see our lead mums (and dad) returning. After all, the show wouldn't be complete without them!
So that's main character Julia (Anna Maxwell Martin), plus best friend Liz (Diane Morgan) and other parents Kevin (Paul Ready), Amanda (Lucy Punch), Anne (Philippa Dunne), and Meg (Tanya Moodie).
On top of that, there's Julia's husband Paul (Oliver Chris) and her mum Marion (Ellie Haddington). Plus, there's always scope for brand new characters and potential guest appearances too.
What have the cast said about Motherland season 4?
OK, so there is some promising news, as Motherland cast member Tanya Moodie has shared her hopes for a fourth season. Speaking on the BAFTA TV Awards red carpet back in May, she told the Radio Times and other press, "I know that all the goodwill in the world is there to make a comeback."
The actress went on, "It's about getting everyone's ducks in a row. So we all have our fingers crossed and we're just really, really hoping."
Asked about potential storylines for her character Meg, Tanya replied, "The menopause. I just think we can get some laughs out of that probably. Either that or Meg gets pregnant again. That would be really weird. Pregnant at 50 – what?!"
Tanya also previously told the publication, "Well, we’re trying to figure out if there’s any more Motherland. That’s sort of in the ether. But we don’t know how or when."
When might Motherland season 4 be released?
We'll have to wait for Motherland season four confirmation before hearing anything about a release date. With that in mind, we wouldn't expect to see a new series hitting screens until at least late 2023.
