Jake Gyllenhaal has finally spoken out about the drama surrounding Taylor Swift's song 'All Too Well' and, wow, there's a lot to take in.

If you've been anywhere on the internet over the past three months, you'll likely have come across the Jake/Taylor discussion. To recap: back in 2012 Taylor, 32, first released break-up track 'All Too Well', with fans immediately theorising that it was about her brief three month relationship with Jake, 41.

Fast-forward to November 2021, and Taylor released a 10-minute version of 'All Too Well' with brand new lyrics as part of the re-released "Taylor's version" of her Red album, following the singer's fall-out with music producer Scooter Braun.

The revised lyrics, plus the accompanying short film starring Dylan O'Brien and Sadie Sink, led fans to once again theorise about Jake's inspiration for the song, sparking new conversations about age-gap relationships and mourning short romances in the process.

Taylor herself has never publicly named who the song is about. Still, in January 2022, Jake appeared to respond to the track, wearing a pair of red heart-shaped sunglasses in a shoot for W Magazine. The glasses were almost identical to a pair that Taylor wore in the music video for '22', which is on the same Red album as 'All Too Well', and fans were naturally obsessed.

Cryptic photoshoot aside, Jake hadn't officially spoken out about the situation, until now. Asked about the song and the drama that followed in a new interview with Esquire, Jake told the publication, "It has nothing to do with me. It’s about her relationship with her fans. It is her expression. Artists tap into personal experiences for inspiration, and I don’t begrudge anyone that."

With the interview taking place a month after the 'All Too Well' response first kicked off, Jake was also asked whether the month in question had been hard on him, answering that it had not.

What's more, asked whether he had listened to the Red album, Jake responded simply, "No." Well, that's that then.

Although Jake didn't publicly comment on 'All Too Well' at the time, fans did notice one subtle response to the drama on Jake's end: the fact that he'd turned off his Instagram comments. Asked about his decision to do so, Jake told the publication, "At some point, I think it’s important when supporters get unruly that we feel a responsibility to have them be civil and not allow for cyberbullying in one’s name."

Elsewhere in the interview, Jake also referenced his girlfriend Jeanne Cadieu, 26, with the pair making their red carpet debut together back in September 2021.

He explained, "I’m not unaware that there’s interest in my life," adding, "My life is wonderful. I have a relationship that is truly wonderful, and I have a family I love so much. And this whole period of time has made me realise that."

Anyone else feeling an urge to replay 'All Too Well' on repeat right about now?
